Please fix the Track Interleave problem of it randomly changing from stereo to mono with no input from the user. Several Bug Reports have been submitted regarding this and other problems with Track Interleave, such as it won't bounce to Stereo. Thanks, Bub.

Bub Please fix the Track Interleave problem of it randomly changing from stereo to mono with no input from the user. Several Bug Reports have been submitted regarding this and other problems with Track Interleave, such as it won't bounce to Stereo. Thanks, Bub. Hi Bub, The only interleave issue I'm personally aware of with this is the following scenario... If you have a track that meets these conditions: 1) It's input is assigned to a Mono input 2) It's interleave has been manually assigned to Stereo Interleave 3) You have Input Echo enabled on the track Then when you launch the project it automatically sets the track's interleave to "Mono". (The opposite situation is true as well... track interleave manually set to mono with a stereo input) It's automatically setting the interleave to correlate to your input, which under normal circumstances would be desired but not if you are simply launching a project. This is easily worked around by disabling input echo on the track. If input echo is not enabled, when you open the project it shouldn't switch your interleave setting. Please let me know if this is what you are referring to. This behavior has been around since pre-SONAR X1 but we do have official reports on file with our devs to look into this behavior since it's confusing. If I'm misunderstanding let us know so we can make sure it is officially on file.

Hi Ryan, What you describe has been both "normal" and a problem for many Cakewalk users forever. The easiest example to appreciate is when we are using Guitar Rig. Most people play a guitar with a mono output ( I do have a few with stereo output as well ) but they want to listen to Guitar Rig in stereo interleave mode. That is true regardless of whether the guitarist is tracking with input echo or listening to playback without input echo. It has become routine for us to have to check and reset stereo interleave settings each time we work with Guitar Rig. It is especially tedious during overdubs. Now the problem has been exasperated by the fact that Cakewalk decided to hide track interleave status within the track inspector bloat panel. When the interleave is hidden within the inspector rather than displayed on the track as it has been for many years it becomes less likely that we will enjoy the tedium of switching it back and forth as we have done for so long. It becomes more likely that we will not recognize that a setting we expect to persist will be switched automatically without our notice. best regards, mike

That is true regardless of whether the guitarist is tracking with input echo or listening to playback without input echo. It has become routine for us to have to check and reset stereo interleave settings each time we work with Guitar Rig. It is especially tedious during overdubs. I can totally relate to this workflow. Then again, I find myself needing to manually change an interleave setting less often then I would if it did not automatically change when detecting an input assignment. Were this the case, every time I chose a mono or stereo input source, I would need to check the interleave setting. I would personally hate to have to do this 95% of the time opposed to 5%. I can respect that we might be in disagreement on this, but I'm personally a fan of it switching the interleave to match my input source. If I need to override this setting, it's a conscious effort on my part.
I understand. I'm sure you're already aware, but the interleave settings are also available in the Console View. If you work mainly from the Track View (sounds like you might) then there is another visual cue to determine what your track's interleave is set to. See the image below: Track 1 is set to Interleave Mono and Track 2 is set to Interleave Stereo. I personally always show the FX Bin's in the Track View so it's easy for me to determine by simply looking at those markings. It becomes more likely that we will not recognize that a setting we expect to persist will be switched automatically without our notice.
I completely agree that the setting should persist when you have manually changed it to something else, hence the official report. :D best regards, mike Thanks for your input. I appreciate you taking the time to explain.

Hi Ryan, I've been reflecting upon your comments and I thought it might be helpful if I add a few comments for you too consider. I really like Cakewalk's layer feature. In my work flow I might set up a track and then work in layers for 4 hours on that same track. Every time I arm that track/layer for record the interleave set's itself to match the input. So, for me... I find that I am resetting the interleave settings far more often than I am setting up a track. I probably record a instrument in mono or several mono inputs far more often than I record in stereo. I do have a extensive collection of stereo matched pair mics and thoroughly enjoy recording in stereo but the truth is it is more routine for me to record instruments as mono tracks. Regardless of how I record a track I would venture to say that 99% of the time I playback and mix all my tracks with stereo interleave set to stereo. So every time I arm a track and watch it reset to mono... I have to manually switch it back to stereo. I am not sure how any of that relates to your 95%-5% experience... I am just hoping that providing some insights about how "normal" it seems to me to have to reset the interleave all the time might be helpful for Cakewalk to understand the nature of my concern. In the scenario where I spoke of using Guitar Rig and overdubs... every time I re arm the track for record my manual choice of stereo interleave swaps back to mono. If you are doing a 4 hour session of overdubs the situation can occur dozens... maybe even a hundred times in that session. I use the Guitar rig example because I imagine almost everyone wants to play that particular EFX back in stereo and so I hope the ideas I am speaking of will resonate with more people who are observing the discussion. You are correct in assuming that I only use track view. The situation with the interleave selection was tolerable when I was able to arm or disarm a track and coincidentally reset the stereo interleave while keeping my mouse within an extremely small display area. Now I have to go hunting for the interleave command in another place... and it simply takes longer and makes everything slower. I hope some of these explanations are useful. all the best, mike

Put very simply... 95% of track inputs will be mono (guitar, vox mics, etc) 95% of track outputs will be stereo (GR4, Vox processors with reverb, stereo delays, etc) It makes the most sense for us to set the interleave to how WE want it and for X1 to LEAVE IT ALONE. Edit to add: A dual mono option with 2 pan controls would also be a very usefull addition so that a "stereo" source could be correctly panned (say) L100% - L20%

If I'm misunderstanding let us know so we can make sure it is officially on file. Hi Ryan, Mike explained it pretty well. I wanted to add that this doesn't just happen with Guitar Rig 4. It's any stereo plug-in you use on a mono track. I've tried it with Input Echo off and it will still change the Interleave Settings. Setting input to Stereo sometimes results in no signal being routed to Guitar Rig 4 depending on the preset. The other problem is, when you want to bounce down to stereo or freeze, you have a 50/50 shot of a stereo track being created. Sometimes I'll get a stereo track, but it will be a mono signal on the left and right channel essentially making a mono track and sometimes I'll get a mono track even though bounce settings were set to stereo. I've never use stereo tracks unless I'm bouncing or freezing so it's odd that I'm just noticing it now with X1 and I didn't with 8.0/8.5? I think what the difference is, when I set it in 8.0/8.5 the setting stuck, it doesn't seem to be in X1. Thanks, Bub Edit: +1 to what Karyn said too.

Hi Everyone, Thanks for elaborating, that definitely helped and I really do appreciate it. I'll admit I missed the larger issue at hand here until I considered your workflow. I was under the impression that this only happened on project launch but I tried repeating the workflow you folks were suggesting with toggling input echo on/off on a track containing Guitar Rig 4 that I manually set to "Stereo Interleave". You're right... it's annoying. I guess to clarify since there are two behaviors I was confusing: 1) When you switch from a stereo input source to a mono input source, the track interleave switches automatically. (This is what I was trying to argue is desirable to me personally since I have to make a conscious effort to change if I want it set otherwise) 2) When you enable input echo on a track, the interleave setting always switches to match the input assignment. (Highly aggravating if you've made a point to change the interleave setting manually) Please feel free to correct me if I'm still misunderstanding.
