If you want to fill out your reading list check out Cakewalk Synthesizer 2nd edition by Simon Cann. It covers most of the synths that ship with 8.5 and X1. Combined with Scott's book you'll have a pretty good reference set to work from.

Hey Mick, bobr, Bristol_Jonesey, Steve, FBB, dlesaux, ampfixer... thanks, guys! I really appreciate the recommendation.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure mine is the only book out there. Not totally positive, but I haven't really looked.

Hi Wrayer... thanks very much and I hope you enjoy the book!

    Best,

I have a few of Scott's books and use them frequently. I also picked up the Level-3 video tutorials while they were on sale, and like they way they're put together. Might be something to consider if you're a visual learner.

    Hey Marius,

Yeah, that's what the publisher keeps telling me. Believe me, I bug them about it at least every couple weeks, if not more. They're a huge company and I only really have one main contact there. Then that person has to contact another person, and so on down the line. I've heard that the ball is now in Amazon's court and we're just waiting on them to complete the international distribution deal. Last I heard, it should be anytime in the next few weeks. But then Amazon Corporate moves slowly too. Corporations have too much paperwork.  You can be sure that as soon as it's ready, I'll be screaming about it at the top of my lungs over on DigiFreq.

    Thanks!
    Scott

Thanks, Rick! Glad to hear the books are still being put to good use. DVD tutorials are still in the works... I just need to finish the SONAR X1 Power video supplements first. I know readers are waiting for them. Sorry about that, everyone!

I have owned several books, but the manual is still the best.

I am pleased to see it has been reworked for X1.

The manual, IMO is sterile, lacking in detail, and not really helpful. It tells you what a function/control/switch does, but doesn't provide any practical examples.

Scotts books on the other hand are full of real world, session related practicality.

    There is no substitution.

    In My Opinion

Thanks, Colin! Like you described, my books are not meant to take the place of the manual. Instead, they are meant to be read from cover-to-cover like a regular book and they provide organized guidance for learning how to use SONAR.
