Whats this a M1 a Wavestation an O5R/w and a MS-20 well
what can we do with these in a couple of hours and SONAR Producer X3e (Thought I should play with some of my other soft synths as Arturia and SONAR X3e are not playing ball very well at the moment.) Imagine you walk into your studio and someone has left you the following Korg synths an M1, a Wavestation, an O5R/w and a MS-20 this is what fell out of my furry paws. Corgish Comments and constructive crits welcome Clicks pops and bangs courtesy of the MS-20 and are intentional.

I really like it! It has a really warm sound and feeling to it. I like the groove that is being laid down by the percussive sounding thingy, I don't know what it is ,but I like it! Thanks for posting it!

Thank you Monty, the percussive thingy is the Korg MS-20 soft synth emulation of the hardware of the same name. Which if you have missed the recent press is an old semi-modular analogue synth just re-released by KORG. The software has been around for some time but I just acquired it in one of those not to missed deals.

Thank you Gus, I use the old Mid Side processing (channel tools) to create space quite a bit the strange noise of which you speak is a sound that is generated randomly by the MS-20 each bounce is different.

Old skool electronica. Yeah, that was pretty cool. And it definitely has a late 70's synth vibe for me. The one and only thing I'd like to hear is a little more depth/width on the lead synth - everything else is spaced so nicely that it seems a bit narrow in comparison. Maybe some subtle panned delay?

Hi Steve, thanks for the listen and the interesting suggestion, the lead synth is actually making use of Channel tools to narrow it down and there is a subtle ping pong delay fed by it, perhaps a tad to subtle.

"(Thought I should play with some of my other soft synths as Arturia and SONAR X3e are not playing ball very well at the moment.)" It REALLY sucks when we have technical difficulty :-( We've all been there and felt the pain. There's really nothing worse than being inspired, having time, motivation, creativity, and then WHAM! Shiz does not work... And then you're troubleshooting. I love to play with the synths, but don't use them much because of my genera(s) This seemed to have almost a Celtic vibe to me. I enjoyed it, I would bring those more percussive bits at the bottom up a bit.

Loved this piece, John. Maybe I'm biased because I own and have played with the same synths (oh, if I only had more time and your feel for this genre), but I was particularly impressed by the way you put all the pieces together.

Nice track John. I like the underlying bed and groove very much, shades of PG's Birdy soundtrack there. I didn't care for the rather harsh string-ish lead tone tho, it was nice when it dropped out at 1:36.

Thanks you James, to be associated with such and amazing sound track I thank you, one of my all time most harrowing films but you have to watch. Not sure if it is Sounclod or the MP3 that causes the harshness, the voice in question is the M1 playing the SynQuartet patch.

I've listened a half dozen times or more. I like the under lying pattern, and the idea of playing over the pattern. I enjoy the tones, the harsh ones and the smooth ones. It seems like the timing on the lead line could be tightened up (audio snap?) and that the melody of the lead line could use some development as there are places where it seems like it momentarily runs out of inspiration. I didn't pay much attention to the stereo mix stuff, but I enjoyed the overall tonality and sense of space. Can you tell us where the MS20 is being used? It's probably a stupid question... but I'm curious to learn. Thanks for sharing! cleaned up some really bad typing :-)

Thank you Mike for having more than one listen. The MS 20 is providing the underling tonal rhythm to the track, that's the "doom, do, da da, it also provides the random squeaks and squeals, the patch is called Stenography. The O5R/w provides the percussion with its producer kit, the Wave station is the pad using the Entropy patch and the M1 is the lead using the Sync Quartet. I should say that other than the O5R/w patch all the others have been attacked with my paws in some way. Thanks again for the listen and the inquiring comment.

Thanks Freddy glad that you enjoyed and chilled, well all these lovely synths come with pre-sets but they also come with twiddly bits that just have to be twiddled. Johnny, sorry it did not play it is on Reverbnation on the other link in my signature, my normal MP3 rate 128kbs Unicode. It does have some intentional squeaks and pops as the LFO cycles on the MS 20 pitch and filter, they are sitting quite low in the mix.

Sounds great Wookiee, you definitely have a gift for synth playing and construction of said synth lines. I remember a keyboard player left some Yamaha thingy in my studio back in the early eighties, I played it for days straight and fell in love with the whole sound creation thing. I found it takes real skill to not only create the sounds but to layer them so they work well together.

I like that high bellish synth. Do you play your melodies live or are they written and planned out? Cuz they feel pretty 'live'. Nice lo-key vibe here... I'd have to say its not quite my cup of tea, but I could hear it as background music in a commercial
