Whats up with the trail you get when you mix down via Sonar X1?

Check it out:

I was putting together a demo on how crappy vanilla guitar tone can sound good for chugs and I get this trail at the start of the clip.

I don't want to press play and stop 3 times before I mix something down...Is there a setting I have that is off?

Are you by any chance inserting your drum synth in the FX bin of the track rather than in the synth rack? I think this might be one cause of this problem IIRC. SONAR continues to support this method of hosting synths for compatibility with legacy projects, but there are various issues with it, and I recommend you avoid it.

If that doesn't address the problem, am I right in thinking that it's only the tail of the crash cymbal that continues to ring out, and the drums are from a soft synth? Which one?

It's an unflushed buffer. A longstanding nuisance, but really no big deal. Most people put a 2-bar count-in at the front of a song that swallows any lingering sample or reverb tails or delays. Personally, I make a habit of closing the project and re-opening it before the final export, which avoids other problems as well.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I know this has come up periodically, but it seems inconsistent. I haven't run into it for a long time if ever with synths, only with certain FX (e.g. a Sonitus delay with feedback), and that sounded like the crash sample ringing out, which would normally happen after you stop playback, and be cleared by the time you go to bounce/export audio.

I'm thinking there might be a particular combination of audio driver and SONAR config that results in the port being closed on stop so the audio gets stuck in the buffer. It would be helpful to know exactly what synths, FX and interface are involved as well as audio preferences.

Another workaround might be to restart the audio engine.

I get an annoying pop or something at the start of the wave quite often when i listen to my exports. I think Bits solution though not ideal, is a great one. I also like the stop audio engine one. I'm gonna try both.

And on cue:  I just got the same thing.  I used one of Sonars own vocal vsts and also had Waves Masserati on the same track.  POP silence, track starts.   Possibly caused by a 32 bit and 64 bit plugin being used on the same track.

I think I'm done with Sonar and waves after this album.
