Whats your go to vst synth?
Hi all im using sonar platinum and loving it for making trance/house and have added to my sonic arsenal buy getting synthmaster 2.8, serum, sylenth1! Synthmaster was my favourite but sylenth1 sure gives it a run for its money and serum...wow that thing is amazing. Great for basses and any sound you can think off, and was wondering what synths do you guys love and why?

For bass my go to is Spectrasonics Trillian. But I'm using it less and less since I've grewn tired of large samplebased libraries.. These days I'm mostly using Meldas Mpowersynth which is fantastic and all things Arturia....

I would probably say SynthMaster too. And since you already have version 2.8, you may want to check out the crossgrade to SynthMaster One for $29. It's only got two oscillators, but they sound good, and plus they have added 100 wavetables. The simplified GUI makes dialing in a new sound a snap. It might be great for what you want to do.

I'm prob the only one who loves Rapture Pro with Z3ta2, but that's what I usually use. Mostly because I own them. :-)

Z3TA+2 is still one of my favorites. Very powerful, with lots of waveshaping and sound mangulating potential. It seems to stay on the lists of the top soft synths for a reason.

I gave synthmaster one demo a try the other day and loved it! so ill be getting it today as its a no brainer. The sounds are fantastic i thought and the price as you said $29 how can you go wrong...i forgot to mention z3ta+2 it was about $59 and that thing was amazing! its not the nicest to look at but sounds great.

I like the 3 oscillator per layer setup in Hybrid 3. It is a cool combination of subtractive and wavetable synthesis that can result in some very interesting, evolving sounds. If you spend any time with it you will appreciate what it can do. It seems to be somewhat undeservedly under-rated. Try the demo and see. Easy to tweak, with over 1200 interesting presets covering all types, and some very useful performance controls that makes morphing in real-time easy. It offers two complete layers, parts A & B, each with 3 oscillators. Each layer has it's own filters, envelopes, LFO's, and step sequencers. The first two oscillators have 100 wavetables each, in addition to saw and square waveforms. The third oscillator has saw, square, and triangle, and can also be used as a sub or noise oscillator.

I still like Alchemy as my go to......with the amount of great sound libraries it has, I sometimes forget the reason I fired it up in the first place.

Kontakt. Sometimes for drums, often for bass, usually for pianos/EP/Organs, acoustic instruments. At times in the past, Rapture was a go-to as it's fairly easy to get some unique textures out of it. Dimension Pro got a lot of play because it had a variety of interesting sounds. Triangle II and Pentagon used to see a lot of action as well. I only recently picked up Synthmaster, but I can see why you might want to put that on everything if you were primarily into electronic music. It's capable of a pretty wide variety of good sounds.

I can't think of any one synth - hardware or software - that I gravitate to. I'll use "whatever" when initially working out the instrument arrangements to a song, and when that's done I'll go searching for the best instrument for a particular track. Could be software or hardware. Sometimes the original tracks might even remain if I got lucky on the initial tracks. The only common denominators I can think of is EZDrummer....It's fast, easy and lightweight to get things started, but it may or may be there in the end. For organ parts. I'll start with VB3, (which is fine "sometimes") but in the end if my Hammond / Vent / amp / sounds better, then VB3 goes bye-bye. Same for bass. Bass could end up being a Kontakt bass or the real thing in the end, but starting out I'll use a VST of some sort to work out the bass lines.
