When I delete a soft synth track from track view, it still shows up in the browser

I am running X1 Producer x1b Build 255 on Windows XP (32 bit), and I have discovered what seems to be odd behavior, but I'm not sure if it's a bug.

Here's how to reproduce the behavior:
1) Create a blank project, and select Insert --> Soft Synth --> z3ta+  (I don't think it matters which soft synth you select).
When the "Insert Soft Synth" dialog comes up,  select the following soft synth options:
Create These Tracks: Simple Instrument Track
Open These Windows: Synth Property Page
2) Click OK on "Insert Soft Synth" dialog.
3) Select Views --> Browser to open the browser.
4) Click the Synth tab on the browser and you'll see the instance of z3ta+ that you just created.
5) Click in the Gray area of the track you just created (in track view), right- click the mouse and select "Delete Track."
The track will go away in track view, but you will still see it in the Browser.
If you save the project, close it and re-open it, you will still see the same thing.

I have been experiencing quite a few crashes opening projects after having deleted a soft synth track.
Actually, the crashes have been related to EZDrummer 1.3.0.
I just used z3ta+ in the example since it ships with Sonar.

Anyway, I'm wondering if the crashes might be related to the fact that Sonar is trying to reference a track that was not properly deleted.
Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Thanks,
Jonathan

You've only deleted the track. The Synth is still in the rack, which is correct - until you delete it from the rack.
This is normal, and how it should work.

That shouldn't cause you any problems at all

With the synth still in the rack, you can create new track(s) and point them to that synth.

If you don't want the synth in the project any longer, you need to delete it from the synth rack (in the browser).

    Hope that clears things up.

Thanks, Cliff.  That does clear things up!

Here is what was causing my system to crash (I finally isolated the cause):
    1) Insert --> Soft Synth --> vsyplugins --> EZDrummer (1.3.0)
When the "Insert Soft Synth" dialog comes up,  select the following soft synth options:
Create These Tracks: Simple Instrument Track
Open These Windows: Synth Property Page
    2) Open the browser and you will see one instance of the EZDrummer synth in the rack.
    3) Delete the track you just created.
    4) Repeat step 1
You will see both instances of EZDrummer in the rack, and Sonar will immediately crash.
If it doesn't crash and you are able to save the project, it will crash when you try to re-open the project.

I only did this because I didn't realize the synth was still in the rack (so I didn't know I was creating two instances of the EZDrummer soft synth), but doesn't this look like a bug?

    Thanks,
    Jonathan

I've found it to be a useful feature. You can have multiple audio output tracks for a single synth, which has all kinds of potential applications. Fake double tracking, A/Bing different effects chains and settings, stuff like that.

A system whereby the program tried to work out whether or not I actually wanted a synth deleting when I deleted a related track would likely be a bit error prone for such approaches.

Not a bug. More likely you are crashing after running out of memory.

Unlike general-purpose samplers such as Kontakt or SampleTank, which come up as an empty shell until you load a library, many drum samplers automatically load libraries as soon as they're added to a project.

Two instances of EZDrummer will be a bigger problem than redundant instances of almost any other soft synth or sampler. I am not an EZDrummer user, but my primary drum synth (Superior Drummer) automatically loads 655MB of samples as soon as it's added to a project.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Can you set it to load up empty? I used to have problems with BFD sometimes until I set it to load an empty template on startup.

    Thanks Dave.

I think you have diagnosed the problem!
I don't know how familiar you are with EZDrummer, but I have a lot of expansion packs installed, and I have noticed that as I installed each pack, it took longer for the EZDrummer soft synth to load.
I don't really need two instances of EZDrummer, so it's not an issue.  The reason I ran into the issue was because I didn't realize that the synth instance was still hanging around after I deleted the instrument track, thus creating two instances of the soft synth.

Nonetheless, I wonder if there's a way to configure EZDrummer to only load the samples for one kit in order to save memory.
I hope I'm not going to run into problems loading both EZDrummer and Dimension Pro soft synths into a project simultaneously.
My system is XP 32 bit and It's already maxed out at 4 gig.

    Anyway, thanks again.
I'm new to this forum, but I'm finding it to be a great resource!
