When in PRV I drag the mouse to select a few notes but other notes are also selected? Why?

I'm sure you've all experienced it. I only want to move the notes I indicated I wanted to move. Why are my intentions going unheeded? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Can you be more specific.  In you title I figured notes that you did not intend to select are being selected.  In your post, I'm thinking maybe notes that are not selected are being moved.

Is this a new phenomena?  What method are you using to select?  Have you tried alternate selection methods?  Sometimes doing that will help reveal the problem.  Let us know.

If you don't have the controllers pane open in the PRV, the velocity tails will be shown in the notes pane, and lassoing a velocity tail will include that note in the selection. The easiest way to avoid this is to go to the view tab in the PRV and choose Show/Hide Controller Pane to enable it. The velocity tails will move to the Controllers pane (though they're not technically "controllers"), so you can select notes without touching velocity tails.

Lassoing a velocity tale will select the note? That explains everything! That feature is kind of annoying. I'll do what you said.

The advantage of having this feature is that with it active when you select the note all the aspects such as sustain, volume changes, and any other control parameters associated with that/those note/s will move with them.  Otherwise you would then have to go in an manually move all the controls manually as well.  Simply being able to toggle the feature on/off allows you to use which ever method is appropriate at the time.

There is also a registry setting you can make to override this behavior.
    See http://forum.cakewalk.com...67&mpage=1#2274150

I believe it's also described in the X1 manual on Page 670.

The Select Controllers with Notes setting (to which I believe you're referring) only applies to actual controllers like Sustain and Modulation, and it works the other way around - including controllers that are within the duration of the selected note. Velocity is a note parameter, and will always stay with its corresponding note event, regardless of this setting.

But Tom's recommendation is right on. I thought I remembered being able to set this, but forgot it was in the Registry.
