When is the box copy of X1 going to be available?
I'm not going to get suckered into paying for a download version this time. The whole *you can pay a little extra for the boxed version after you buy the download* thing is not for me. When can I order a boxed copy of X1 direct from Cakewalk and how much will the boxed copy cost? I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on it. 3 weeks ago no one could say for sure... how about now? Dec 8th. The dls are for trying out obviously. Try the eCake Store. (I'm wondering if I worded this correctly) TBH, for me, I wouldn't bother getting 8.5P then dl since X1P is nearly identical. But it's up to you. To dl or not to dl? That is the question. Looks like you wanna ride it out a couple more weeks. That's the better option IMO

I spoke to my local retailer the other day and they said they would have X1 boxes on the same release day (8th Dec, I think) and that it would be the same price as the Cakewalk store (£89).
Not sure quite where you are geographically, but have you tried ringing up a few local music stores? If it's the same price, and you get to walk away with the box there and then (no waiting for dispatch from Ireland, etc.), it might be worth it. And I imagine all the stores will be getting their stock the same day.

I am in a small rural town in the South Eastern USA; Tallahassee Florida.
I usually purchase direct from Cakewalk.

Oh, apologies, think I got my wires crossed with another forumgoer in the UK. (where a music store is probably a maximum of 50m in any direction... we're a wee bit smaller!)
Yeah, I think your best bet is direct from the store, they may even start shipping before the 8th to get stuff underway.

Its already been stated that the X1 download is complete and doesn't need a previous install like at the time of getting 8.5 download needing to have S 8 installed previously.
Apparently that means that the data for Beatscape and DimPro will be available as a download as well.

One supplier in Australia told me that the boxed copy won't be available till mid January... I wonder if that is just their store, or all stores in Australia....

But the *official* word has been:
The download will be available on Dec 8 with a box copy of the upgrade available sometime after, at some additional cost.
That's why I was asking When and how much.

Yes, thank you, but this is exactly what I do not want to do.
I don't mind waiting a bit longer... although I am anxious to get started with X1... I am just wondering when I can order the package in the form factor I prefer.

I am like Mike..IF it is all complete it will be one hella download, I would have to come to work to DL it and you BETTER use a download manager!
Its a toss up, problems with a corrupt DL file or a problem with the double layer DVD and or hardware .
I dont see a reason to burn it to double layer DVD unless you dont have another archive method or back up software.
I think Sweetwater has them the quickest and free shipping , the cake store charges shipping ..

Sorry Mike, I don't have the answer. I'm sure the info will be available soon, though. Like others have said, retailers like Musician's Friend and Sweetwater will carry the boxed copy.

It will be like last year, the full install is just too big for a single download. So.... You have 8.5.3 installed. You download the X1 upgrade which then uses your 8.5.3 as the main source media.
This is not true - not sure where or how you heard this. While the full install is rather large all the components will be available via download and do not require any previous version of SONAR to be installed to use. For Producer users who are upgrading there is certainly no need to download Dimension Pro and Beatscape but I guess if you really really wanted to we're not going to stop you.
1. Did the 8.5 download installer (SONAR_Producer_8_5.exe, 1.9GB) contain the content patches in the "Producter8.3ContentPatchRevB.exe" and "Producer831Path.exe" upgrade files (I think they were Session Drummer patches)
No it did not include the additional Session Drummer content
2. Likewise can we be assured that the X1 download will contain the updates in the SONAR_Producer_8_5.exe download plus the Producer851Patch.exe - Producer853Patch.exe files?
No it will not, the X1 download is a complete, full installer for a different application. We offer upgrade pricing but do not require a previous version installed to install the SONAR X1 download
3. If not the download then what about the discs? Also, have their been any content updates/additions to things like Dimesion Pro since Producer v7.0?
The download is the same thing one would get should they decide to purchase the media as well. SONAR X1 will include Dimension Pro 1.5, however if upgrading from SONAR 8/8.5 Producer there is no need to download all 3GB of Dimension Pro again, you can simply run the 1.5 update (if you haven't already ran it)
4. What VSTs or content are no longer in X1 which were available in, say, 7.0?
The same instruments and effects are available. Similar to 7, we don't install all of them by default but they are still available to be installed for backwards compatibility with projects that might still use them. The included content, audio and midi loops varies a little with almost every release
5. In a nutshell, if I get the discs, can I ditch my old versions (ignoring any old VSTs that may no longer be included)??
Even if you don't get the discs you could still ditch your old versions, that's really between you and your download speed/patience  Hope that answers some questions. Willy Jones Technical Support Cakewalk

My apologies if it wasn't you, in another thread I boldly speculated that the download would require an 8.5 install as the base media in order to limit the size of the download. Just like the 8.5 download used the 8.0 install. A cake rep posted that was not the case and that the X1 download was a complete install in its own right. Without doing a search for the thread I thought it was you. Yeah I know I'm lazy...
