Where Did The Track, Console, Event List View Icons Go?
I'm continuing to demo Sonar Pro. I am liking it more and more. One question, though: What happened to the little icons at the top, like for Track view, Console view, Event list, etc? I can't seem to find them. I like using them and find they're a workflow enhancer. Otherwise, not a lot of difference between my workflow in 8.5 and the new Sonar. But it does seem smoother, faster and undoubtedly it is more more stable. This is not a deal-breaker, but it would be icing on the cake if I could still have those icons to change views.

I don't see them as icons in Platinum, but have learned to use the View dropdown list instead. It's a click less convenient, but still easy.

As Slugbaby says but also keyboard short cuts Alt + 2 = Console view in Multi dock Alt + 8 = event list in Multi dock D = display the Multi dock Etc. Views in the MD can be floated off as can the Multi dock

The icons were removed in favor of keyboard shortcuts. There is a free third party addon which has them. Duckbar is available here http://www.sonarmods.com/forum/index.php. Login required to download.

You also can assign buttons in the custom module in the dock control bar

And there are Screen Sets, where you can have different layouts of things displayed, and switch between them. It is all quite powerful, and flexible - it just takes a little bit to find and understand the different ways of controlling things. Each of these methods is pretty simple, and once you play with them for a little while you will find yourself able to bounce around quite easily, and without a lot of effort or thought required. :) PLEASE feel free to post additional questions as they come up, as these forums are one of THE most powerful parts of the whole Sonar picture. What I mean is that there are a BUNCH of really really skilled users of Sonar, as well as very skilled in the craft of recording/editing/mixing/mastering, in the ranks of forum members, and these folks will bend over backwards to assist folks who are willing to engage in the process of working through issues that arise. There are Sonar folks of all sorts and shapes and sizes of skill levels, who all come together to help each other out, and this is a POWERFUL tool, to compliment the product and the support staff. I would like to offer you a means of helping yourself when you are looking for solutions to issues/questions you have, using the forums. The forum search mechanism is weak/poor at best, and that is just the way it is - it is a 3rd-party set of software, and not likely to change to allow better searching anytime soon. In the meantime, here is a GREAT way to search for possible answers/workarounds/solutions to things you face when working with Sonar. Use Google, and its search control parameters (filters) to help narrow its search to only look in these forums for what you seek. There is a GOOD chance that someone has encountered your issue or question before, and this will quickly help you find that reduced/refined set of threads to look at for assistance. One way to do this is to use the following form, typed into the address bar or search box in Google: site:forum.cakewalk.com search terms example: site:forum.cakewalk.com platinum key bindings The above returns a list of threads that talk about the various key bindings in Sonar Platinum, and you will have a pretty small result set searching for the above example (1240 results). That's pretty good for a Google search. And, by slightly altering the search string, to perhaps: site:cakewalk.com documentation sonar platinum key binding I reduce the returned results to about 340. Wow, excellent replies, and thanks. Sounds like there are a number of ways to go here. I actually did use keyboard shortcuts in the past, but then I customized my control bar, removing what I don't use and keeping what I do. It ended up being pretty sparse, but I do have a simple workflow. I'll be upgrading soon. And I'll try to utilize search more. Looking forward to faster, smoother, more stable DAWing!
