Where Is The "On Stop, Rewind To Now Marker" Option In X1?
I just can't find this option and I want to disable it! Can somebody tell me where it is, or is it gone, now, and we have to use the pause on the transport?

I always been quite baffled as to why anyone would ever want to go back to the start every time they stopped a project let alone have it as the default setting. Been like that since I can remember and I've been with cake since pro audio 9. Not that I'm saying it was in pro 9 Steve

Choose Options > On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker in the Track view menu. Even if you don't change the default setting, you can pause at the current Now time by hitting Ctrl-Spacebar. Or if you do change the setting so that hitting Spacebar stops at the current Now time, then Ctrl-Spacebar takes you back to the previous position. So, regardless of settings, you don't lose the option of 2 different stop positions.

For me, MIDI editing is very much an iterative trial and error process, so I tend to work on a single phrase at a time and replay it after each edit. It makes sense to return to the start of the phrase that I will be listening back to after the next edit.

I use it in both modes. When trying to play in a solo, it's easier to have it return automatically so, if I don't like what I did, all I have to do is Ctrl+Z and I'm ready to try another pass without having to manually go back to the top of the solo. Also, when playing in something like horn section parts or two handed piano parts, it's really handy to play in the part, hit the space bar to stop and have it ready to go again. All I have to do is to select the next track. However, in editing, I agree it's much better NOT to automatically return so I'm glad we have both options.

IIRC On stop now time behaviour will change whether you stop using the space bar of shift space. I could be mistaken though. twaddle I always been quite baffled as to why anyone would ever want to go back to the start every time they stopped a project let alone have it as the default setting. Been like that since I can remember and I've been with cake since pro audio 9. Not that I'm saying it was in pro 9 Steve I use it quite a lot but not back to start, it only goes back to the last now time marker. It's like a loop with a pause function. Handy for editing sometimes.

There's a key command for switching the default behaviour - although with no indication of which is currently active. Use (I'm pretty sure it is) Shift+W to toggle the rewind to now marker option. It could be Ctrl+W or Alt+W... I'm not at my DAW so I can't heck it but give it a go. It's handy if you like to change the default behaviour a lot and you don't have to mess around in the options menu

Hey since we are on the subject....how do I change this: Say the Now marker is on Measure 2. I see a midi clip in measure 16 that I want to see in Piano Roll View. I double click on the clip, PRV opens up and I'm looking at the PRV at measue 2. It would be better to have the Now marker move to measure 16 so I don't have to scroll from measure 2 to measure 16? Can I change that? I'm goin' type Scott in here, just hopin' Scott looks in.

Hey Jimbo! I don't think you can but I understand what you mean and I agree. I've just made it a habbit to click the now time to meassure 16 and then double click the clip. Now I don't think so much about it anymore. However, if there is a way I'd certainly like to find out too BTW - in terms of toggling the return to Now time thing with key commands - it's Ctrl+W, quite handy. Now all we need is an indicator to tell us when it's doing one thing or the other.

It would be an excellent idea to have the now time move to where you click on a clip...or at least centre the prv on the area that was clicked.

Hey I just did the CTRL+W thing and poof...my problem is solved also. It's just I'll have to toogle back and forth. Might be easier to do ProjectM's idea of moving the Now Marker 1st. Thanks

Double click in the top half sets the now time at the position you double click so that will open where you want it. Double clicking in the bottom half will leave the now time where it is, so it is an option but an option you choose on the fly.

Yep, just make sure you double-click in the top half of the clip instead of the bottom half. That will both move the Now time and open the PRV at the same time. Scott -- Scott R.
