Where are all the highs coming from?
So I downloaded SPAN so I can see how my songs sound, because I sure can't hear them very well. Watching the thing work, I start wondering where those 14k-20k noises are coming from, a little curiosity. I mute all the tracks and unmute them one at a time until I find the track making all the squealing. It's me!? How am I making such high-pitched noises? Sibilance? Harmonics? Sympathetic vibrations from my fillings? The sloshing of my spittle? I swallowed a parakeet? Since I can't hear it, it doesn't bother me, but I'd like to apologize to all the hearing-abled folks who can hear it and wondered what the heck it was.

I read the topic title and thought this was another thread about pot being legal in a couple of states now. My bad. (But feel free to let us know when you find out how you're able to make those high pitches. )
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Sibilance goes all the way up the spectrum, although it's strongest in the 6-8KHz range. Some microphones are famous for adding "lift" at 10KHz. Fan noise, and in my case freeway noise, are up there, too. This is the great value of using tools such as SPAN: detecting frequencies you can't otherwise hear. Usually we're obsessing over the low end of the scale due to speaker deficiencies and acoustical problems, but there's an awful lot up there at the other end that we can't hear, either. Question is, what harm does it do besides making your MP3s a little bigger and offending dogs & bats?

Probably little I would think Bit. I seen Izotope just came out with what looks like a really nice set of tools to further analyze what we might not be able to hear.

Looks like I need to become the mixing engineer of what we don't hear. I'm gonna start with that John Cage piece. Here you go....

Just returned from the hospital after an emergency parakeetectomy. Boy are my arms tired. But seriously, folks, have you met my wife? Neither have I! Bwaahaahaahaa... Thanks, Bit. I figured it was something along those lines. I haven't ever 'seen' my voice before. Hearing it is bad enough.

Thank goodness you've worked out something was wrong Greg. Maybe now I'll be able to get some sleep round here without all that shrillness going down. I thought someone had let Bapu loose among the hi hat boost presets agin.

bitflipper Dave's not here, man. Cool. So what did you want me for? Is this car actually moving or is it me? It must be the car, I can't move.
