Where is Addictive Drums?
First dumb question of the day I thought I'd have a look at AD last night, but it wasn't available as a vsti, nor in any of the plugin layouts (including default all plugins) I had a quick look at the Windows Filesystem, did a search but couldn't find anything related to XLN, Addictive Drums or anything remotely similar. I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that AD would be part of the main Sonar Install, i.e. disc 1 for the DVD purchasers Disc 2 is Lops & One Shots Disc 3 is Dimension Pro Disc 4 is Additional content I didn't install any of these, just the main installed on Disc 1. So, where on earth is it? Thanks, Jonesey

you have to go online and get it ... they want you to register with them and do the download from their site they have an installer with a whole process to follow .. I think this is the link I might of used , anyway they explain it here ... http://www.xlnaudio.com/install it was actually pretty easy , and I wound up using the same installer for Addictive Keys every thing went smooth when I did this a few days ago Kenny

There should be a download link and reg key in your Cakewalk store account. That gives you an installer that goes online and installs the synth from XLN's website. Be sure to click the Advanced option to specify the installation path if you don't want the default on your system drive. But the cool thing is you can change your mind later, and the installer will move it after the fact.

Thanks guys! Download it is then. Though, they could have included it in the installer disc surely, or add another disc. Negates the whole point of buying boxed media.

From the Addictive Download Instructions doc that was one of the X3 download files: To download XLN Audio Addictive Drums please go to: http://www.xlnaudio.com/install and enter your Product Key. You will find the product key you need to provide XLN Audio from your Cakewalk Store account listed under “My Registered Products”. But I was mistaken about getting the key from my Store account; I got it from the e-mail sent by Cakewalk containing all the S/Ns for bundled products. I just checked, and it's actually not showing in my Cakewalk Store account for whatever reason.

Doh...! So I disable all my security, close down other programmes (yes, I have installed software before!), create a profile, intall the installer (!!!???), log in, enter the key and try to download the app. Get thrown out. Go round in circles for an hour. Don't think I'll bother. What's the point of buying the DVDs if 'bundled' software is hidden behind dumb security like this. XLN is off my Christmas list. And Cakewalk isn't helping make a smooth user experience... Come guys, it's 2013, it shouldn't be this clunky.

Same here - I had no problems creating a new account or downloading/installing the software using the serial from CW... I didn't buy the X3 DVD. This was on IE. However, I did purchase Addictive Keys from Musicians Friend which is the downloader on DVD, and everything worked just fine. Although I would have much preferred a simple download like X3 instead of the DVD>download>install process, in the end the result was the same - for both AK and AD. Did you contact XLN? They're the only ones that can help.

Hey Steve, I also bought Addictive Keys, and it wasn't necessary to re-install the Online Installer from the DVD. The one installed for Addictive Drums was still in the Start menu. The same downloader/installer can be used for any instrument or add-in you get from Addictive.

While I'm not thrilled with having to download the products each time you reinstall, having just done a clean install of Win8.1, XLN's installer is pretty nice. Just run it and all your XLN products are installed in one go, no looking for/entering key's etc. Pretty painless, as was the original install & the Addictive Key's I purchased as well. Dan

I can't find the full version. What am i missing? I did restart the computer. Does anyone had this experience and found a solution? Cheers!

You will need to register AD on the XLN website. I saw the same thing after initially installing AD, when I realized that I had never actually registered it even though it was already downloaded and installed.

Well, I hear you guys, but it still ain't working here - and I have been here since Pro Audio 9, so I'm not new to this. AD is in my XLN product list on the Installer, but it kicks me out with this: "ERROR File download failed! Please check your internet connection and try temporaily disabling firewall or anti-virus apps...Cotton XLN Online Installer/1001/InstallData_app_ad/FactoryPresets/AD/PopRock/MediumSmack n Pop.ADPreset". Obviously this message would be unintelligible to the layman, but luckily I have worked with IT professionals over many years, so I can interpret. Translated, it means: "Go away, you are an idiot and we don't want your business. We have expensive toys to play with, leave us alone". No problem. XLN won't be getting any more business of mine!

Installer didn't work 5 days ago. Installer didn't work yesterday. Today - smooth as silk. No change to my system, registration info, no contact with XLN. Just hit the button and let it go... and it went. VST scanner picked it up on launching X3. I'm not surprised/impressed/happy, just thought in fairness I should report back positively after my whinges above. Thing is, if there was no problem, what got fixed? Why didn't it work before? I love old bikes, and this feels just like coaxing an old one-pot thumper back to life - you never know quite what you did, you're just grateful she's fired up!

Bristol, just an FYI, even if Cakewalk had included a disc, you would still have to download AD. As many who have ordered discs of XLN's products will attest, the disc is nothing more than the videos available on youtube and a serial number for you to go download the product.

Thanks dub, I haven't used XLN for anything up until now, so wasn't aware of their strategy. I was assuming that, as with most software, if you pay for the boxed DVD version then everything that Cake advertised as being "included with X3" would / should have been included on the disc with no need to download anything.

Hi Steve! Not at the moment mate, for several reasons. First off I've spent a whole wad of cash so far this year, which has included totally ripping out my studio, re-modelling it which involved buying a new mixing desk and various other toys. It's been one expensive year so far. And secondly, you might have noticed my post in the CH but my company has told me my contract will not be extended past December 31st this year, so I'm currently in the process of job hunting. No fun at my age!! And thirdly, I'm not exactly blown away by the interface of BFD3. They also seem to have removed a fair bit of tweaking functionality - but that's only at a very quick glance, so maybe I'm a bit wide of the mark here. Anyway, good to hear from you mate, it's always a pleasure!

Oh dear, sorry to hear about your contract ? Were you aware it could happen when you started breaking up your studio ? I was going to say it's as well you got it done before hand at least as you might not have done so once you'd found out about your job. I too am unemployed and have also been suffering from what is probably a bulging disc in my neck that's pressing on a nerve which means I can't spend a lot of time sat at my computer which is a mixed blessing. I don't ever visit the CH, I went occasionally when the forum when news group based. Whilst I completely agree about the overall look of BFD3 compared to BFD2 it really is a LOT easier to work with and absolutely no tweakability has been removed whatsoever, in fact quite a lot more tweakability has been added in the form of cymbal swell and tom resonance which I'm only just starting to understand but it's a very powerful weapon in the right hands Also some of the new platinum sample kits are really another level up though I still love the Cocktail Kit and I have quite a lot to choose from now. It's claimed there are 7 new kits with BFD3 but it depends how you look at it. I'd say there were 5 in reality, one of the kits though is brushes and mallets along with sticks. Some would say that equates to 3 kits whereas I would say it's one kit hit with different objects, and of course I'm right Not sure I'll upgrade to X3 for a while. It looks to me to be 75% third party additions with a few new features thrown in. Some would call it bloatware, especially those like myself who already own a lot of that stuff anyway. I've had addictive drums for about 6 years but stopped using it once I learnt how to mix with BFD2. You sell me X3 and I'll sell you BFD3 ? There should be a demo for you to try BFD3 in a week or so. I was blissfully unaware of their intentions when I started to gut it, back in July. I'm glad I managed to sort most of the new purchases before they told me, otherwise the wife would have had something to say Sorry to hear about you mate, and the neck/disc problem doesn't sound like fun. You need to get that sorted. Yeah, I might be tempted with BFD3 but it won't be until the New Year now at the earliest. Cymbal swell eh? That's something I've managed to fake quite well with BFD2, but it's time consuming. So far I'm loving X3. I bought the box version from Et-cetera and it does seem a bit snappier than X2a, but if X2a is running ok on your system, there's no overwhelming need yo upgrade, especially you either don't need Melodyne or V-Vocal works ok for you.

Yes, pardon the pun but it is indeed a major pain in the neck, and arm and I have three numb fingers which makes playing guitar very odd. I just had another look at X3 and there are a few tempters but I'll wait a little while and see what santa brings me. The cymbal swells aren't quite the same as they are in BFD2, for a start they are automatic (though adjustable) and they also work for hi-hats too which makes for very smooth transitions when going from closed to open. I need to sit down and read through the manual as I know there is a lot I'm missing out on. There are supposed to tutorial video's being made but no word as to when they'll be available yet. Some nice new effects included in particular the new reverb and drive delay. Steve
