Where is Beatscape? And why cant i use the draw tool anymore?

Just bought sonar X1 studio, its supposed to come with beatscape. Cant find it anywhere in  the insert > soft synth menu where all the other software instruments are. I Just want to make some drum beats that dont sound like crap and i was hoping this would be possible in sonar x1. Also, for some reason when in the Piano roll view and using one of the crap sounding soft synths (Dropzone or TTS -1), the draw tool doesnt plot notes like it used too in previous cakewalk/sonar software, instead of being able to drag the note by holding the mouse click it just keeps plotting notes everywhere, i could use the smart tool but i'd have to hold the alt key for that to work which doesnt seem 'smart' at all,  just really annoying.

You have to download and install Beatscape on its own. Then you'll find it in your vst drop down list.

As for drawing in the PRV, the tools have changed a little. Read up on them in the manual, experiment and you'll be up and running in no time.

    thanks for the reply,
i cant find where to download it though, the only downloads i can find seem to be for sonar 8 not X1,
I managed to find the download for session drummer 2 but apparently i have to pay for it
even though it says in the help information that it is comes with sonar x1 studio, as does beatscape. For some reason however i do have z3ta+ which is not supposed to come with studio, just producer. This would be handy if i had any use for it or could even figure out what it does.
Do i really have to pay for some decent drum sounds? Pretty misleading if so

    Hi there Tom

Unless something's changed recently, I'm pretty sure Beatscape only comes with X1 Producer Edition - check out the Comparision chart HERE and the list of Instruments that ship with X1 Studio HERE

I would hate to be the one to point out a simple solution..but If you have a 64bit system then beatscape wont show up as it is a 32bit plugin

Ian, I have Beatscape running here in 64bit X1.

The GUI shows that it's being 'Bitbridged' (so yes - it is a 32bit VSTi) but it works fine.

    hmm..

i guess simple flies out the window then huh? :D

I recently (sigh) upgraded to a new PC with win 7 /64 and loaded x1/64 and do not have beatscape show up at all when i go insert>soft synth..

Now, I was aware that beatscape was 32bit and so was not suprised not to see it (if you know what i mean!)..figuring at some point i would need to tackle the bridging thing.. putting onto the "deal with it later" pile..lol

Did you already have bitbridge installed?.. or is it simple for a numbnut to do?

    lol..thx

Assuming you have it, just check - it should have installed to: Program Files (x86) > Cakewalk > Beatscape

The .dll will be located in: Program Files (x86) > Cakewalk > vstplugins - make certain that you scan this folder in X1 64bit and you should be good to go.

As far as Bitbridge goes, it's already installed - as far as I can tell, it just 'works' when you open a 32bit plug in X1 64bit. If the plug-in cannot be 'bitbridged' succesfully you'll see a message displayed like this:

The following is a list of audio, MIDI and instrument plug-ins that are included with SONAR.

Tom - yes, I see that in the help files too.

Did you download X1 from the Cakewalk website or do you have the installation discs?

The reason I ask is because if you have the discs, you should have a specific disc there with only Beatscape on it. If so, use that to install it and you should be good to go.

If you downloaded X1, then Beatscape should be available in your Cakewalk account, as ProjectM states above.

If the download isn't available or you don't have the Beatscape installation disc, I'd either ring Cakewalk Technical Support or use the e-mail form here: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/contact/csr.aspx and explain to them that you are missing Beatscape from your purchase.

Well - if I read the details about the versions, I am sure Beatscape is only included in X1 Producer. Also - Session drummer 2 is not included in X1 studio, but Studio Instruments Drums is.

Session drummer is upgraded to version 3, and is only available in X1 Producer...

I am afraid that part of the help file is for the older 8.5 versions, and has to be corrected. I guess the developers are very busy preparing X1c, and had no time to correct this part of the help file yet...

    Thanks guys

Bought it from the shop, only the one disc in the box.

Easy to get frustrated sometimes, it was hard enough working out how to make drum beats on the older cakewalks, for someone like me that is. I usually only have one drum track, all others are audio tracks done through the VS20

If i do have to buy, are programs like session drummer and beatscape even any better than TTS-1 or dropzone for drum sounds?  SI kit doesnt really have many options and sounds pretty bad for what im after.

Is there a better drum program i can use with the Piano roll view? If im gonna pay for it might as well get something decent.

    What would you guys recommend?

    @Tommo

I had previously owned home studio and was looking at versions of Sonar.. and given i am not producing commercial recordings i looked initially at Studio (this was in Sonar 8.5 times)... however the included bundle for Producer just made it the best choice... just not the cheapest.. and you can upgrade very reasonably.. drums, pianos and v-vocal are all good.. note if you are finicky about your drums.. then the percussin strip and SD3 are a good combo (some tutorial vids on that)

When i bought studio i figured it was the best value for money because previous producer bundles (sonar 8.5 etc) were close 1000 bucks (Australian). Seems that X1 producer is alot cheaper than i thought, if i knew it was half the price of the old ones i would have bought it for sure.
Can i upgrade to producer? or is it too late? Wouldnt problems arise because ive bought the studio installation cd and i'd be upgrading by downloading? Seems very messy. Dont think i'd be able to take it back to the shop...
Really should of researched it a bit more.... ah well.

Can i upgrade to producer? or is it too late?
    Hi Tom.

Yes mate, you can download the upgrade anytime up until Cakewalk replace X1 with its official replacement. After that, you'd have to find somewhere that sold the discs. Nobody knows when X2 (assuming that's what it's going to be) will be released, although if it follows recent trends it could be towards the end of the year.

However, once you have 'bought in' to the Producer level product, subsequent upgrades will come in at the lowest price - nothing like as large as the jump from other Cakewalk products. If you plan on using all the goodies in Producer editions, it really is a bit of a no-brainer.

Wouldnt problems arise because ive bought the studio installation cd and i'd be upgrading by downloading? Seems very messy.
Not at all Tom - the download will install as a completely discrete and separate program, just as if you were installing from the discs. The installation will 'find' your designated relevant Cakewalk folders so you will end up with shared folders for most of your Cakewalk related stuff (projects, VST's etc) - if anything, it's all very well thought out and just the opposite of messy!

The only (small) changes you may need to address afterwards are if you install the 64bit version of X1 Producer, where you will need to make certain your VST scan includes any 32bit plugs you want to use with Bitbridge.

Dont think i'd be able to take it back to the shop...
No need to Tom (and not much chance either now you've agreed to the EULA and installed the program, unless the discs are faulty) - you should be fine having both versions running on your system; plus you wouldn't really gain anything in the process - the way Cakewalk's upgrade system works, the big discount you get when upgrading from Studio to Producer is reflected in the fact that you've already purchased Studio!

I've just taken a look at the upgrade price for you to download X1 Producer and it's US$199, which by my rough reckoning is about AUS$187.

The page I'm looking at is here: http://www.store.cakewalk.com/b2cus/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=10-CXSP1.00-20E

As you'll see, they're also running this offer at the moment:
    • Special Bonus Offer: Purchase any upgrade to SONAR X1 before August 31st and receive a FREE Welcome Kit with two free sound packs from Digital Sound Factory and tutorial samples from Groove 3 and Scott Garrigus. That's four free downloads - a $70 value!

Anyway, I hope that all makes sense mate and helps you make up your mind

    Steve
