Where is drm.ini? I can't find it.

Sonar Home Srudio 7.0

Well, I gave it a good try .. and looked everywhere .. duh, it's probably right in front of me .. but anyhow:

Where can I find - how do I get into drm.ini?

I'm used to the old(er) Cakewalk on my other computers, but with Pro Audio, you normally go into wincake.ini and ttseq.ini .. for this stuff ...

I cannot find drm.ini

(trying to add my own dump request macros)

Thanks greatly!

I found this line in another post explaining how to edit DRM's:

    C:\ProgramFiles\Cakewalk\SONAR1\cakewalk.ini

But I see no "cakewalk.ini" in any of my CW or Sonar folders. Executing a search on my HD drive yields nothing.

Can this (and any other *.ini files) be downloaded?

Curious ... seems they need to be locked in there somewhere for the program to proceed properly (I thought ...)

I'm curious why you need to find it?  I know mine exists in my cakewalk directorty but I've never in 6 years and 8 versions of cakewalk had to open it or change anything in it.

my guess is that you have "system files" turned off for windows explorer (which is the default folder view option).

    Thanks for responding, Beagle.

The reason I need to open it (well, certainly in my Pro Audio version over on my other computer) is because in order to create and save a DRM for a piece of equipment not included in their list, one opens the *ini file, you write in the proper code with all the correct syntax (lots of hex characters); save it; then when you reopen CW, and you go to the SYSEX window, if you ask the program to “receive” a SYSEX data dump, you can then scroll down the list and see the line that was just entered.
In my case, I’ve put together hex codes to call CW to receive Korg DSS-1 data; programs; multisounds; even PCM data.

You say system files is turned off in on my setup possibly? (whatever that means … ) how/where do I turn it back on?

    in windows, the folder options.

you didn't list your version of windows.  if you're using win7,then here are the directions:

Okay, that worked; found it. YES!

    (I'm using Vista)

With the old Windows XP arrangement, at least it stated when "such and such are hidden files" ... or so I believe.

    Thanks greatly for your assistance,

    YIKES!!

Wow, this is turning into the file management nightmare on Elm Street ... and I don’t even live on Elm Street …

Well, as I said, I am now able to find the drm.ini file ... great! ... and I was able to open it! and even able to meticulously enter all the DSS-1 midi implementation data ... cool ..

But it will not let me save it (tried it in Notepad; then tried in Wordpad) same problem ... it's telling me access is denied.

    ... sheesh ...

Opened up the properties dialogue box ,,, all the privileges are presently selected to be allowed .. nor is the file marked “hidden” …

    Hmm, … what’up?

    Well, I think I see see "land" ... closer anyhow;

Managed to tweak lots of permission settings and whatever ... can now edit drm.ini and save it back as drm.ini so that's good news.

Curiously, all my drm's I've carefully constructed and placed properly do not show up when I summon them once the SYSEX window is called; tried rebooting the whole computer even.

I've checked and re-checked all my syntax. I've written many of these over the years ,, w/o any problem ... can't figure this out here though ...

Took a search through the forum messages ... can't really find any illuminating relevant ideas yet ...

Wondering now, if there's a way to open an *.ini file in the Options/Initialization Settings window.

I see in the forum others have been told that they must first edit either *.ini file, after which point it then shows up in the window.

I’ve edited and saved both Cakewalk.ini and drm.ini but I cannot open them in that window.

Any other approach that would help?

I’m now wondering if accessing them there will finally allow them to open and properly show the content (drm codes) I’ve placed in the file.

Which file is used, by the way? I see Cakewalk.ini and drm.ini both contain all the drm codes.

Anyhow, long story short, how can I open any ini file in the Options > Initialization Files window?

    Thanks
