Where is the velocity event?

I am using a midi file to learn a vocal part.  I use the TSS instrument to assign “voices” to the other parts and try to control volume.  Although I change the volume, as soon as I stop and restart, the volume sliders jump to the default for the file.  I view events, but do not see the command that controls the velocity of each track.  Where is it?  How do I delete or override the event that sets the velocity of each track?

A process can not be understood by stopping it. One must flow with it and become one.

It's usually midi controller 7 for volume but some instruments use use another midi controller number for patch volume (Virus C uses controller 36 for example)

The reason the faders jump back to the midi file default volume when you press play is that Sonar by default searches back to the last bit of relevant controller data in the track. You can disable this behavior. I can't remember where the setting is but try Edit>Preferences>Project>Midi

try and untick preferences -> project -> MIDI ->zero controllers when play stops

    might be it.
it's good to remember thought that velocity and volume is two different things.
the volume can be controlled by velocity, but this is not always the case

you can also try and open the midi track in the event list (just right click the track and select vew->event list) .. here you can see all MIDI-msg on this channel in a list. just delete the ones you don't want

sorry maxsax.. missed that you already had mentioned about the prefs-project-midi setting
