We can have rifles of any calibre as long as they're manual re-load, with the exception of .22 semi-autos)
Hand guns were the last thing to be severly limited after the tragic event in Dunblaine (sp). Put simply, everything smaller than a carbine rifle was banned.

There have been various "inovations" to get around the ban though resulting in some rather strange looking guns....

My interest is presision target. I have two .22lr target rifles. one about $500 the about $6000

But still did not stop the tragic event in South London last week.
Is it an urban myth that the British Olympic Pistol shooting team has to practice in France?

Probably, the thought of any British sportsman actually practicing is surely a myth, we see any training that does not involve a very decent brandy and a smoking jacket as not on, and probably borderline cheating.

Yes it is.  They actually practise in Switzerland.

In fairness, there have been some changes to the rules regarding .22 target pistols recently and the shooting disciplines in the Olympics have changed.  It's not my area of expertise but I do know that we have some form of pistol shooting we can practise in the uk.

Also, muzzle loading pistols are not affected by the ban, so there is a big market in conversion of classic revolvers like Colt .45 magnums to a cap'n'ball cylinder system.

As regards recent shootings in London. Tragic as it is for the families involved, handguns have been illegal for 14 years now and cold blooded murder has always been illegal.  Simply saying "That's illegal, you mustn't do it" doesn't stop anyone.
I'm going to use a few harsh words, but I make no appologies.  I really saddens me that there are "kids" in our society that have been failed by their parents, failed by their school, failed by the social support system and even failed by their friends, that have so little inteligence that a lot of them can't even talk properly "you no wot ah meen, like?".   With their lack of ability to express themselves intelectually their first recourse is to violence when presented with situations they can't deal with.  In short, there is a small group of idiot morons that don't know any better and don't give F*&^ about what they do because they don't see that their behaviour is wrong.
I DO NOT BLAME THEM, I blame our society that has allowed them to exist.

But it is NOT the fault of guns.

I'm sorry for the rant, but it's a subject close to my heart.  Guns are not dangerous, only people are dangerous.

True that...look at China with all the knife incidents..or even here...

But then...it is always easier to blame an inanimate object....
