Which Key for Harmonica?

I want to be able to play the notes A Bb G C on a harmonica for a riff on a particular tune.

Anyone know what Key harmonica I need for this?

Thanks.

The key of F major contains all those notes. So does Bb Major.

    A chromatic harmonica perhaps?

I did answer his question. An F harp will play the notes he wants to play. So will a Bb harp. Those are the only two Major keys that contain all the notes he wants to play in his riff. Which one is better for him would depend on his riff.

Those are the only two diatonic harps that can play all the notes he wants to use. As Guitarhacker posted, a chromatic harmonica can play any note.

    Thanks for the input guys.

However, what's up with the price of harmonicas????  I usually get the Hohner Marine Band's for what I remember was maybe $18 to $20 each.  Now they are selling for over $30.  What's up with that???

Good reeds vs cheap reeds. The stuff you can't see that makes expression and trick moves possible.

    question:

Since Harmonicas play chords not notes:

    F Major=  F Am Bb C  =D minor

Bb Major=  Bb Cm F Adim  =G minor

How do chords, harmonicas, and the OPs question relate?

I'm being sincere... not funning around... I am just a music theory spectator.

    All insights welcome.

    best regards,

I agree the stuff inside can be either cheap or well made.... but a harmonica will play individual notes.... it might not be easy to play a scale but it is possible. And a chord is made up from two or more individual notes.

I have an old one that my mom had laying around.... and I tried to learn it... it's supposed to be the "easiest instrument" to learn..... uhhhhhh no!

It mostly collects dust now.... I could not get the hang of the in vs out breath needed to play a scale with any sort of repeatable accuracy. And trying to stop all but the one tiny hole for that one note..... well that's a trick I didn't seem to be able to pull off consistently either. So it sets on the shelf and looks pretty.

A good harmonica player has put in plenty of time in the "woodshed" to learn to play it.

I play more notes than chords on my harmonicas.

I use one of those neck holders a la Bob Dylan and Neil Young.

I know that people can play notes on a harmonica... but it's called a "harmonic" "ca" for a reason right?

It seems like you are using a Harmonica as a Clarinet (simplest reed instrument I can think of off the top of my head)... Yes? No?

I mean really, no fooling... do you really play more notes than chords with your harmonica?

    all the best,
    mike

Like I said.... I gave up on that thing.... besides, the one I have is NOT in tune with A-440... it's flat by enough that I couldn't play it on a song without retuning the midi and I'm not about to do that.
