Which SONAR version is for me? (Sequencing!)

Hi all!  New old-timer here.  I had extensive experience with Cakewalk Pro 4.0, but that was almost twenty years ago!  I'm now dusting off the gear and want to start sequencing again.  It seems all of the software is geared more to digital recording.  If my focus is just MIDI sequencing, which SONAR version is right for me?  Oh yeah, I need to read and convert my plethora of old .wrk files too!!

Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.
If money is an issue, Music Creator 6.
If you can spend more, any of the X series will work.
Any new Cakewalk sequencer should be able to play your .wrk files, but they will then be saved in a new format, .cwp.
And it depends on how many tracks you want to use; MC 6 has limits on the number of MIDI and audio tracks, software synthesizers and effects. The more you spend on a program, the fewer limits there are.
Plus, the higher-end programs have more effects, soft synths and features than MC 6.

I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

Thanks Greg!  Money isn't a huge issue.  Simplicity is.  I don't want to get bogged down in all the DAS stuff and focus on sequencing.  I'm still on the fence about soft synths at this point; but at first I'll just stick with my hardware modules.  I'm thinking maybe support for 4 ports to start (4 ports * 16 channels * 16 tracks).   Cakewalk Pro 4.0 with a nice GUI and Win7 support would be perfect :) but I'm sure there's nothing that basic anymore...

    thanks again!

Hi again, well I've located and rescued my treasure trove of old .wrk files on floppies.  Dates of 1991 and 1992 FTW!!!  :)

Anyhow, Sonar X2 Studio doesn't want to open them.  :(  Any idea of which SONAR version would support these??  They were created in Cakepro 4.0.  I even found the cakepro.exe file, but it won't open on win7x64.  Maybe I'll copy back to my xp system to see if it opens there...
