X3d. I can record any sound from my DAW or the internet PC. I know that's not extraction but it's how I capture any sound.

Of course I think I dismissed using Sonar (X2 for me)......do you just load the video into X3 and save the audio files?

No. Anything that can be heard through my system can be recorded. Realtime. Only file saved is what audio I record. If I were to mess with downloading videos I have Vegas Pro 12 and would use it...but I don't download videos.

I don't understand all the downloading and extracting moves...it sure seems easier just to hit record if the audio is all one is after.

Craig, did you have this issue with Youtube Downloader? Most of the user reviews that complained, were generally consistent with: "ConsIt took me over a day to remove all the malware installed with it - even though I did use the Custom install and declined the one thing that was offered. It took a combination of my Avast, Malwarebytes, and SpyBot, doing full boot scans, and rootkit scans as administrator before getting it all out." "ConsI cannot believe i was fooled on this one.It took approx 7 hours to remove toolbars & spyware.Cheap. You have been warned" "ConsI am warning you guys: Contains Delta spyware toolbar.I wasted way too much time"

I use Streamosaur. Just turn it on and save as a 16-bit wave file (or MP3). I then load it into SONAR to trim and split. Of course, sound quality is always mediocre because most streamed internet audio is 128 kb/s. For videos, I use a Firefox add-in called NetVideoHunter. It claims to do audio too, but I've not tried it for that.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Thanks everyone, these are some excellent choices to have. I'm adding them to my favorites and will test them out to see which works best for me. @ Westside Steve & Kenny: these sites that only require a URL, have you noticed which bitrate they are converted at? (I think the lowest standard is 128 kBit/s, but do they even convert at higher rates?)

the site i mentioned just allowed me to download my own tune that i had posted as a wave file (I posted this as non down load able song on sound cloud ) the file I got was a 128 MP3 ….of my tune …well I might as well post it on sound click since they did the conversion for me Kenny

Loopback on my interface and record with sonar. You could hardwire the Loopback if your interface doesn't have a soft Loopback.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I've tried a couple Mesh but problems with "extras" I didn't want or know I was getting caused me to search around. I like Any Video Converter too because it's easy and coverts about any video type to audio. I love picking out licks I hear in concerts so using it works great for me. You can tweak it in Sonar to use how ever you want. I've been using Transcribe to finish learning whatever catches my attention. I found a Mahavishnu Orchestra concert with songs I've always liked so that's my most recent use. Much fun!

If the video is uploaded in HD to YouTube then the bitrate is 196kbps AAC, which is pretty good - better than 196kbps MP3 and certainly way above the paltry 128kbps MP3 which sites like Soundcloud give you.
