Which Studio One plugin work in Sonar ?

I am reluctant to abandon Sonar but consider to have Studio One just in case. I am curious which Studio One FXs and synths can be opened in Sonar?

Windows 10/64, Intel i7 Xeon X6575 3,07GHz, 24Gb RAM, chipset: Intel X58 Express, Kingston SSD 240Gb,  Sonar Platinum , Edirol UA-25.  (Some extra VSTs: PSP almost all/  IK - AT4, ST3, / AAS - all/ TH3 full/ +10dB/ Melodyne Editor). EVE sc205 monitors, Defil Kosmos guitar, blue lava lamp, ashtray.  And there is some great music you may find at: https://soundcloud.com/pawel-jan-1

None of the Presonus designed plugins from Studio One will work in any other DAWs to my knowledge - I heard they're a proprietary format which only Studio One can use.

They are all locked to studio one and not VST. The only studio one plugins not easily covered by sonar are sample 1 and splitter.

Yeah I tested that out, even my addictive drums 2 wouldn't open in studio one, so I contacted presonus customer support, aparrently the basic studio one artist doesn't allow 3rd party plugins, you need to upgrade to be able to use 3rd party plugins........so I guess Addictive drums 2 and other xln producticts, melodyne  yeah, only 3rd party will work in studio one........however I just installed reaper trial, and everything 3rd party automatiacally loaded up.......

Windows 10, 64 bit, intel core i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHZ  2.59GHZ......12 gig ram ....Sonar lifetime updates, presonus audiobox 1818 interface, and beringer UFX1604 mixer interface/control surface...... All round musician, multi-instrumentalist/songwriter.....attempting to produce good music.....started on music creator 6 2014, bought sonar 2015....and now invested in lifetime updates......Learning always!!!!Thanx cakewalk and online forum

Yep, for 3rd party plugins in Studio One, you either need to have the top-whack Professional Edition, or you can buy an add-on for the Artist edition to allow them but I think it's close to $100 to buy it.

Studio One is priced so low right now for Sonar users that it really is a no brainer if you want to switch. The Pro version supports all VST's really well. It has some very useful plugs built in as well.

Yep the price is a great deal.  $150 until the end of the year.  If I had the money spare I'd snap it up. Sadly I don't!

+1 I went for that deal ...

I wonder , here's a quick little OT question ...Are all the loops that came w Studio One also locked into just being able to be used in the program?
I haven't tried to access them yet out side of SOP 3 , but judging by the way the installers installed them and where they are located it seems that they may appear to be locked down ...
anyone here know ?

I hope you keep in mind that nothing lasts forever. Software, companies, people, and you name it can come and go when we least expect it.
Change is part of reality. It’s snyones choice to walk the path they want as long as they are free to make that choice for themselves.
Just keep in mind that it may be sooner than later when another DAW could be needed in the future depending on your needs.
There’s plenty of great incentives out there right now if you are willing.
That’s the good news out of such a bummer situation with Sonar.

It is not OT at all. This is precisely what I am interested in, is there any Studio One content that can be used in Sonar, loops too.

Many Studio One loops take the form of what they call a Soundset.  It is a special proprietary Studio One format. But there is a workaround although a little long. You can audition a loop from a Soundset and play it of course without dragging it out at all. If you find one you like then drag it out and then you can bounce that loop down very fast and it will appear inside the Bounces folder in your session as a standard wave file.

I am not suggesting that you do that for every loop as that would take a while. But what can do is audition them pretty easy in Studio One though and then if you find something you really like you can do the bounce operation and get it that way for a another DAW.

I have checked and it is not possible to unpack a Soundset as yet. You can pack a Soundset from a whole bunch of wave files though (your own) and create one.  You need to install the SoundSet builder to do it though. You don't have to build a Soundset either. You can just put a stack of wave files in a folder and Studio One will still let you audition them etc (and drag them out) just like the Soundset loops.

You can export the file as a mixdown but there is an even easier method. Just click on the loop and do a CtrL B and it will generate a wave file in the Bounces folder.  If you add any processing etc it also gets bounced when you do a CtrL B,

The loops are not locked per say, but unpack in a weird format. Just drag on to timeline and then drag into another folder in briwser to create a wav

Thanks for the tip. I've not really looked into Sample One. I tend to favor Ableton's Session View, drum racks, and Simpler for working with loops and samples. Mixcraft's Performance Panel looks pretty interesting, too.

Thank you for taking the time to explain all that Jeff

From what you have said , one real nice thing I get out of what you said  is Studio One can be one very effective tool where a person can create all their own original content from using the tools that are provided ...
SONAR was like that for me also where I could use the full power of the DAW to create my own sounds and loops from scratch ...sort of like using the DAW as a pallet of sound colors ...

I'm looking forward to learning my way around SO3 ....it is all still so new too me ..
I do like the idea of being able to create and pack up self created Sound Sets  .....
I may even be able to put the songs thing on hold for a while and be able to release some specific guitar sounds and playing enhancement product that way ...

all the best

That would be very nice of you Kenny.  And you can upload any sound sets to the Presonus exchange.  I should also mention there is a ton of free stuff up there on the Presonus exchange as well which is all freely downloadable. There are some amazing sound sets up there that others have created. (not in the original sound sets that come with Studio One)

It is well worth downloading all the available sounds and sound sets too as part of your Studio One purchase. Over 20G I think.  Just take your time to work through it all.  There is a huge Presence XT library as well as a lot of loops.

I would rate simpler slightly better for working with loops, but sample one is better for fl studio type worlflow.

How so? I think most people associate FL Studio with the step sequencer and channel rack.

Re: Which Studio One plugin work in Sonar ? 2017/12/14 12:00:29 (permalink)
Jeff Evans
That would be very nice of you Kenny.  And you can upload any sound sets to the Presonus exchange.  I should also mention there is a ton of free stuff up there on the Presonus exchange as well which is all freely downloadable. There are some amazing sound sets up there that others have created. (not in the original sound sets that come with Studio One)

It is well worth downloading all the available sounds and sound sets too as part of your Studio One purchase. Over 20G I think.  Just take your time to work through it all.  There is a huge Presence XT library as well as a lot of loops.

Thank you Jeff ,

Yes I wanted to be very sure that I placed the full program on my computer ..I want it all .....
I happen to enjoy taking my time poking around with "a new to me program "   w out placing any unreasonable expectations on myself ...
It is a given that there will be so much unfamiliar to me type of stuff going on I willingly choose to enjoy the whole process of discovery ...
I have found out that "not knowing " can be a place , and a state of mind that offers a lot of freedom ..
Not knowing sure beats trying to force my will on a totally new workflow and DAW environment

Yes , I will take your advice seriously and look into your suggestion of checking out the Presonus exchange

all the best ,

Kenny

Oh Yeah , Life is Good .
The internet is nothing more than a glorified real time cartoon we all star in.
I play a "Gibson " R 8 Les Paul Cherry Sunburst .
The Love of my Life is an American Bulldog Named Duke . I'm currently running Cakewalk By BandLab as my DAW .

I'm hoping that in a future update, Sample One users will be able to make transportable packages for easy sharing or moving instead of having to create a folder of samples and point to it.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Maybe not Right Forum ......But HEY...These are 'Desperate Times'.
I am in the early stages of Demoing S1 and whilst 'Smilingly' enjoying the Demoes... I have found a problem.
I am a live performer ( OK....along with my better half) and use Roland SD50 Mobile Studio Canvas hardware as our backing track hardware.
Over many years....Have used Sonar to great affect in editing Mid files.
With Sonar ......you could pick your Midi output (ie: SD50) and it would contentedly play your files through the SD50 to a similar audio spread to that which you would experience on Gig Night.
To those of you with a more advanced level of experience in SD1 ........particularly if you use an ext Midi output device ........ Why is my midi sound module NOT Working.
As of today...used the SD50 with Sonar and Reaper.....No worries ...............hooks up and everything fine.
I suppose I Don't even know what specific question to ask as S1 is a new player in my IT learning.
Cheers......Frank
