Which Versions Of Mozilla Firefox & Internet Explorer Are Suggested To Use These Forums

Hello, Long time member here. Firefox causes endless troubles for about the last year here, & I can't even get on Cakewalk with Internet Explorer. I'm using Win XP for this on-line rig,[but not my DAW rig]. Having been here since Sonar 6 Studio, and now up to Sonar X2 Producer, I will want to be back & forth with questions for some & answers for others. But it's frustrating when I can't preview my posts, nor space out my lines, etc. etc. Everything is just one big long sentence. Any suggestions? Thanks

Firefox 3.6 works flawlessly with the Cakewalk forums.

None of the other browsers, including new versions of Firefox can claim that. You always have to tweak this, torque that, live with this, live with that.

    Get it here.

Where you will see problems with IE8 is with zooming in and out on the web page. Sometimes it will make your text formatting bar vanish.

FWIW I've never been able to get IE8 to work if I zoomed or not.

I'm now using Firefox 15.0.1 with IETab 2.2.0.1 and it seems to be working fine... I used 5.0 forever to avoid issues but at last I'm free! ;-)

Thanks Buds, I tried to install IE8 and had some troubles. I waited & waited while it did it's updates only to stop & have me manually do an update, which then said the file was invalid. I thought that was rather humorous since Windows pointed me to the 'correct' missing update file, & then told me that their Windows update file was 'invalid'. Also, many months ago, I did the Firefox earlier version thing, only to have it update itself in a matter of a day or so, and put me right back to square '1'. Can I override this problem?

Yeah, Google Chrome user here on Win7. Zero problems, and I visit a lot of forums. Have yet to see a glitch here on the Sonar forum.

Yes, you have to go in to Tools, Options, Advanced, Update, and uncheck the update FF box.

You can also have multiple versions of FF on your system, but not running at the same time.

I find it pathetic that we end up having threads like this when the real issue is that the forums software here needs updating (ASPPlayground.NET), Cake has not updated this for several years - there are security issues with this software, not just issues with the GUI,

OK, I went to Firefox and 3.6 is no longer supported, which they warn could lead to other troubles of security, etc.

I've installed Google Chrome, which is a little too bare-bones for my liking, which is why I never really liked it before when I tried it...but I can still keep my current Firefox 16.0.2 on a separate shortcut, and just use Chrome for this, if nothing else.

I will say that it did load faster, and does show the whole screen - something I'm not use to.

So this will be it's first test for me. - Right here - right now.

We'll see how it works, and I'll say yea or nay in a day or 2, if not sooner.

Well there's a difference already - no longer one big long sentence as you can see.

Also, I actually got a proper preview before posting message.

So I think I'll go with that for now, and keep both options of 'Firefox & Chrome' on the task bar and go with their shortcuts.

So thank you all for the prompt replies Buds,

    Jim

I have never had a problem with this forum and IE(what ever version), as long as I have been using the forum. Only the search function was more or less not functioning. But not because of IE.

So I wonder why is it working for some users and not others, I use both IE 8 on XP x32 and IE 9(?) on win 7 x64, and no problems at all.

    Cheers

Sigh! - I'll explain again the reason why it's not working for some users is because the forums software here does not work well with certain browsers and needs to be upgraded.

This can be easily proved.. Anyone with a browser that does not work can click this link  ASPPlayground.NET , then click the demo tab, and then they will notice that the same (but updated) forums software will work.. Smoking gun? Yes.

Solution - Cakewalk upgrading forums software to 3.9 (here we run 3.5). They need to take care that the javascript code is copied over correctly for the editor during the upgrade.

I use a little utility called "Browser Chooser" for problems like this. When you, or a program, calls the browser, BC lets you choose which one to open in.
I comes in handy here, and for some help files in programs that won't open properly in FireFox, my preferred browser.

Chrome threw all my browsing security out the window.

In my opinion it's the same as spyware and I will never use it.

I installed Chrome and used it 1 time then deleted it and I started getting tons of ad's that targeted the area I live in, and when I go to Youtube I get all kinds of ad's for Sonar X2 now. And the scary thing is ... I'm getting those ad's in all the browsers I use now, even though I've uninstalled Chrome and have my security settings set to max.

Be ware of Chrome ... it goes much deeper than cookies ...

Ad Block Plus is an add-on for Chrome. I use it in all my browers. And, it's free.

Chrome is sand-boxy the way Firefox is. You just need to tweak it.

It does suck that ONLY this forum requires I use a different browser.
So I simply have the 2 icons on my desktop.
You used to be able to get away with older versions of FF but this is no longer a option.  I tried a while back when I did a fresh OS install on a laptop and 3.5 ONLY worked with this forum but crashed everything else. And you couldn't install the latest plug ins.

SO Chrome seems the best if you want to post here. I use FF for all else because it does work better for me.
When I've tried IE8 it's like way to bare bones.
