Which one will it be...

I'm trying to figure out which riff I intend to play first on the SG. I imagine I'd probably start with something smoother in terms of overdrive and work my way up...

Highway to Hell would certainly be an intuitive choice. Hell's Bells isn't an unlikely choice. Heck, maybe even Back in Black.

Then Sabbath obviously...

Don't know why these days I'm always messing with the Electric Funeral riff.
Then pretty much the entire Paranoid album, in fact.
Know what? Make that the first 5 albums - and a few cuts on Sabotage.

Well, almost the entire album, actually.

Did I mention I couldn't wait? - For each post Bapu makes in a day, I'm checking the FedEx Tracking site - which is, of course, absolutely useless, and pretty unfunny.

I've been into a Sabbath phase recently.

Probably helps that I've started re-buying their albums on CD when we drop by at Wal Mart to buy kitty litter and such. They have a bunch of them going for $5. I grab one or two every time we go.

Considering that I've already bought each of those records once or twice - and still own most of them, only, back in Canada, Sabbath and their record company made enough money out of me already for me not to feel as guilty to buy them at such a low price from WM.

Love that song. But that was a Les Paul, no?
I'm trying to stick to classics originally played on SG's.

I guess Sunshine of your Love could be a contender - though I'm not all that good w/ Cream history. Did Clapton play his infamous SG back then?

Zappa almighty is out of the question.

I'm allergic to Santana.

I'm a classic rock guy at heart when it comes to guitar. Hence why Sabbath and AC/DC were my two choices.

In a recent discussion I was reminded of a poster that I had of Clapton's Blackie - before I ever knew who Clapton was.

The above just reminded me of a poster - published at around the same time - that never made it onto my wall, a 2 pages centrefold from Guitar Player IIRC, featuring:

I could never understand how someone could do that to a guitar.

Blessed? I'm counting them blessings! lol

I've never (knowingly) heard Bieber.
Likewise, I couldn't recognize Miley Cyrus if I heard her. Heck I can't even figure how to spell her name.
I think the last big pop hit I was familiar with was Lady Gaga's Pokerface - because of South Park.

That being said, I practically never leave home, we don't have a TV, I don't listen to radio.
I spent the biggest part of my time alone at home with our 5 cats for sole company, and I'm much much much better for it.
As far as I can tell, they dig Kiss and Black Sabbath... :)

Hi,

I would play something different for a change.

Getting kinda bored with these old "standards" and they aren't even that good, just because they are a part of a band that became famous because they were loud.

There are far better things for guitar out there worth learning and playing, but if all you want is top ten crap songs, I won't waste your time, or mine.

But you will always be, just another one like everyone else and the haircut won't make a difference.

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

I come to these boards mostly in light spirits - not to drag people down with twenty pages of banter about me being a self-proclaimed poète maudit suffering for my art, and feeling the need to re-invent the wheel - though to be honest, I do believe that I am rather demanding with myself - to the point of having quite a negative impact on my creativity if you ask my wife.

You know, I was burning my paintings at 7 years old and cursing myself for not being a worthy artist. I picked up fights with friends when they interrupted my artistic activities. What a brat! I then  studied classical music. When I was 20, I was playing in a jazz band w/ a bunch of 60 years old beatniks. I played dance hall music, heavy metal, rock, pop. I gave that all up and start working on electronic and industrial music.

Well, FWIW, I still think the Intro to Highway to Hell is one of the coolest thing to play.

One thing I could never get though is how bragging about some obscure progressive rock bands would make anyone special.

I was re-listening to Never Say Die recently. There's definitely some very good material on there. The riff to that particular song is pretty cool.

Of course, I guess it depends on which "incarnation" of Sabbath you're into. Dio era definitely has some favorites. "Children of the Sea", "Falling Off the Edge of the World", and "Sign of the Southern Cross" are some of my personal favs. Then you got the Born Again album that I thought had some monster riffs. "Zero the Hero" and "Trashed" were great IMO. :)

Yep me too. I thought Nightwing and When Death Calls had great riffs. I do remember that I liked the title track from Eternal Idol too. It's been years since I've heard some of that stuff. :)

As odd as it sounds, those later albums make great gym music. That's where I listen to the Tony Martin stuff most of the time. The Shinning or Devil and Daughter seem a more appropriate soundtrack to lifting weight or throwing punches and exercising than say, uh, Sweet Leaf or Snowblind... :)

Do you have some Ozzy era stuff in there too, like maybe Sabra Cadabra or maybe Fairies Wear Boots for a warm up? Or is it mostly later Sabbath?
