White Space

So, I'm rolling along in X1B -- doing a serious project for hire in it.  Worked for hours last night without a crash and things went along fine (other than the things I just don't like about X1).

Today - I'm doing more work on the project.  It's hardly got anything in it yet.  Drums, 2 guitars, bass (all synths I've used 1000000 times).

Then I click on the Master Bus -- and double click on PSP Vintage Warmer (everyone uses this!) to adjust the compression and X1B brings up a white space screen and there's not a thing I can do.

Can't save.  Can't stop playback.   But I can end task, which I had to do.

Lost a good 20 minutes worth of work.

Thank you.

The funny thing is -- I usually do save very often.  But - for a minute - I started to trust X1B ;)

    Live and learn.

Yep...got that saving thing going here every time...

I've yet to get the white space thing..but I did get a greyed out VVocal....just once mind..I can't get it to repeat now...

The space you have will always be exceeded in direct proportion to the amount of stuff you have...Thornton's Postulate.

Same here regarding the repeat.  I've now done the exact same thing many times in this project and no white screen happens.    I'd almost prefer if it was consisent so it could be reported as a bug that's reproducible in some way.

To report these random things is a waste of time, imho.  CW isn't going to pay attention to random things, to start; and therefor it won't be addressed even if it is a real bug.

Billy - I'm not saying it's not X1's fault, but typically a lot of errors that cause freeze ups and crashes are due to interaction with the soundcard drivers.  you probably know that, I know you're very knowledgable about working with sonar on a PC.  but what soundcard are you using and what driver mode?

    Beags,

The same I've been using for awhile:  Motu Ultralite MKiii F/W version (latest).  ASIO only here.

Because I didn't want to drive myself crazy yet, experimenting with X1B, I'm not using anything I don't use 99% of the time.

To simply bring up the GUI for a well-known, well-established plugin like PSP Vintage Warmer (latest version) and see Sonar go into a white screen tailspin suggests to me there's still some buggaboos runnin' around under the hood.

I'm not even close to taxing X1B in this project yet.  It's so light you could barely see CPU meter move.

As I've said recently - I've completed a few WEEKS of daily intense work in 8.5.3 without a glitch.  I was so impressed with it being able to handle major huge plugins without the need to freeze.

Here I've got hardly anything in the project and the white screen thing just made laugh (and cry since I lost work).

I've literally never seen such things in other DAWs I've been using.   It makes one wonder.

I might have to agree, Billy.  I haven't seen that myself, but I"ve not used it extensively yet.

The only thing I've done "extensively" in this project I'm working on in X1B is a lot of tweaks to Pro Channel compressor, EQ, and also PSP VintageWarmer.

I wouldn't call that extensive, actually -- I'd call it normal.

Just so strange these out of the blue episodes.  High Maintenance I tell ya ;)
