White screen of death on copy drag FX between bins

Has anyone else experienced the white screen crash that occurs when an effect is copy dragged from an FX bin in a channel strip to an FX bin in a channel strip along side?

The first couple of times this happened I thought that I was doing things too quickly for the computer to keep up, but now after every attempt, even with no other process occurring the white screen appears and everything freezes and requires a re-boot.

The crash doesn't seem to favour any particular plugin, but I like the V64 Vocal strip and like to copy the same effects across to another channel by dragging. This invariably causes the crash.

I'm sure that this is not a Sonar problem or I probably would have heard of it by now, so I'm guessing it's something I'm doing, or something about my setup.

I am running X3e on Windows 7 OS with an i5 processor and 8 Gb of RAM and keep my OS generally up to date.

Are there any thoughts out there? May thanks in advance.

Your sig says you're using X3d,

I [ALT]drag copy between fx bins all the time as well.  I've not experienced this crash myself, but I'm willing to give it a try with VC64 to test.

Have you tested with a brand new empty project?  Create a new project, add some empty tracks, add an effect to an FX bin, [ALT] drag to other fx bins.  Add another effect to a bin, [ALT] drag that one... repeat until crash. start again to see if reproducible.

I think he means the VX64, which I drag between FX bins with no problems. Kinda stumped on this one.

Sorry about confusion. Yes VX64, I like it a lot, but the crash is not specific to a particular plugin.
Updated profile. I will checkout Karyn's idea.

When you updated to X3 did you do a re-scan and reset? That seems to have solved a lot of unusual plug-in issue. Apparently this is necessary now that X3 supports VST3 so it can get all its plug-ins in order.

I checked out Karyn's suggestion of creating a new project and things seem to fine there, no crashes.
Went back to existing project and crash every time a drag of plugins is attempted. If I insert a plugin from the menu all is ok. I guess that will have to be the way to go for the existing project.
Craig, I have been using X3 and updates since their release and it runs its scan every time it opens. Are you suggesting I run a separate scan from the menu?

    Optimus,

I tried last night to crash Sonar the way you have been,  I just couldn't do it.  Sorry.
I notice you couldn't either on a fresh project, so I can only suggest you have a corrupted project file somehow.

By 'reset' I assume Craig means to get Sonar to scan from scratch and re-build the VST list rather than simply scanning for changes.  You should find that option in the preferences.

Thanks Karyn, I guess that's what I have, corrupted project files. I guess I will just have to be super careful applying plugins. Hopefully this project is nearly finished.
I will do a fresh scan from preference and see what happens. Thanks for your input.

I don't recall this coming up before, so I don't think it's a common problem. After the project is done, depending on its complexity, you might want to create a new project, Select All and copy the files themselves from the existing project, and paste them into a new project. Then add the plug-ins back in, and save under a separate name. Hopefully that will result in an uncorrupted project you can use in the future if needed.
