Oh, one last thing... if there are specific operations that interrupt the flow of audio, feel free to PM me. Inserts and inserting virtual instruments seem to be the two mentioned the most commonly, but any other specifics would save me time in trying to track them down.

PT 10 has gone to 32-bit floating point. I assume you realize that the audio problems people associated with Pro Tools were related to the TDM version, not the LE version, which didn't have to dither and re-dither audio to accommodate the TDM bus.

It was funny to see pros who'd spent all this money on big Pro Tools systems trying some other software and talking about how much better the mix sounded, when they could have just used LE . I think PT 10 going to 32-bit float was a good move.

FWIW the playback & recording buffers make a big difference to how Sonar works for me. With relatively low playback buffers 128, my sends on/off problem disappears completely but drop outs are more likely to occur when looping/adding synths etc.

If I increase that to something a fair bit higher 512, then the looping/adding synths is solid but then sends on/off becomes a nightmare. In between is just a pain.......

I live with the sends on/off being flakey.......

Hi guys, I'm catching up here after a few weeks of holidays. I upgraded to expanded on first night of release and got the gate module as well. I am having a geat time time with sonar X1 - no hiccups...1 crash I think in the last year. I am finishing an EP at the moment....90% of the plugins I am using are native. I am fininding that using the prochannel on the busses is absolutely great and I am getting good mixes done quicker. I find that I haven't adapted the new pro channel gate yet, I am still using the ever reliable sonitus gate. But the satural knob is the business...just a tiny hint of it on the drum bus and  there...finished. Just a really nice simple time saving tool at the final mix stage just to give a slight morepresence to drums...I haven't dialed it up much farther than 8 o clock, but sometimes that's all that is needed. I'm mainly producing prog rock these days...Anyway...thumbs up from me for X1 expanded and pro channel. The tools are just there when I need them, intuitive so I don't waste time figuring them out...they don't get in the way of the music.

Please listen to my band's new (post-prog rock?!) songs at www.reclaimmusic.com all produced using sonar X1!!

+1 on the playback buffers having an impact on various operations.

FWIW,

I can arm a track and hit record 24/7 on my SONAR install.

I'm surprised to learn that the claim that this is possible is in question... because it works perfectly here on my ancient Studiocat™ system.

Anyways, just thought it was worth mentioning.

best regards,
mike

Are you saying that you can't arm a track & record on the fly or is that just to illustrate an example of functionality there?

FBB. this seems to imply that you can arm a track and record on the fly.
If so, how?
Thanks

Hi timidi this may sound flippant but it's not my intention. If I'm playing back a project and decide that I want to record something I arm the track, or insert one and then arm it and then press record. Starts recording. Sonar just keeps going.

I don't often decide to do it spontaneously, although I have, but I do drop in and out of recording regularly, for example if there's a long break from singing, guitar or whatever, pressing the record button will either stop or start recording depending on the current status. All without playback stopping.

As projectM pointed out I think there may a setting in preferences to allow it but SOnar has done that for a while now. V8 I think.

I can't do that. Wonder why?
I have to stop. The only thing in preferences is for midi.

Hi timidi, the setting you need is Preferences->Project->Record->Allow Arm Changes during Playback/Record

It's just under the Sound on Sound / Overwrite setting.

I'll take your word for it, I don't think I could stay awake that long to test that out.

Back to topic - I bought X1, still using 8.5.3  I won't put out any more cash until I read rosier reports on this forum.  Roland knows how much money I have spent on them.  If I am forced by hardware or OS issues to upgrade, it may very well be to another product.  This is what happens when the user is forced to relearn a product.  It may just as well be a different (better) product.  The SONAR name carries very little weight in the recording industry.

I have never used their hard wired plugins, so they are of zero value to me.

If S1 works better, my next "upgrade" might be just that.

What surprises me is that i never seen one Daw developper offering a massive and hudge step from a version to another  like we had from 8 to x1 (and its expension option) ...and people are ready to jump on boats calimming this and that about other daws are so great and all ....

I mean PT just have alowed people to use other soundcard and have PDC since few months , i don't speak about tracks count , Studio one was just a joke in version one very promising but not a tool for pro at that state ...(witch is maybe not the case right now , have to check) ,cubase is just a surface lift for each namm show since the rock solid 3sx , and , logic have just disocverd the 32 bit floating ect .....

And what do we have here ? A mature soft , excellent audio quality and summing engine , Solid and Pro Bundles , unique features , great integration for partition (ouf !) , a great support , marketing and bziness politic not "apple" like , no dongle , one of the lowest prices, enhanced workflow , coolest froum and people on ;) ...ect ....

So of course one daw is better in editing , and another is better for producing electro with glitcchy effect and all, and one is excellent for project and master managenent ect ...but the TERMINATOR is defintly Sonar where you can (if you want !!!) handle everything from pre to post prod !!
