Who Here Didn't Upgrade to Expanded?

I didn't. This is the first time since I started using Sonar 5 in 2005 to replace Pro Tools III that I haven't upgraded. Several reasons. One is, I have never used Pro Channel even once since I started using X1. I can't see any need to start. Another is, the idea of buying modules that I can only use in Pro Channel seems ridiculous. I have loads of plug-ins that are much better than any plug-in (sorry... "module") that Cakewalk is gonna come out with. And so, finally, this makes this by far the most useless upgrade Cakewalk has made to Sonar since I began using it. I would usually feel like I'm missing out on something by not keeping up with the latest, greatest version. But for the first time, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I'm just wondering how many here decided to skip this Expanded "upgrade" to Sonar... maybe for the first time in a long time.

I might upgrade after the next patch round, I always wait until after the first revision.... then again I might not..... it depends on how much beer I will drink in the next month or so.

I'm skipping Expanded. I will upgrade as soon as the Browser is developed much further, the Console view is revamped, the clips pane has a real grid that shows current snap settings, comping workflow is improved, Audiosnap is improved, or if V-Vocal is improved before I purchase Melodyne

I didn't bother. First one I missed since Pro Audio 9. Personally I don't see the value for me at the present time. I just upgraded Reason to V6 and could name my own price for the upgrade. I also got Logic 9 and a Mac, so I'm having too much fun with other things right now to find Expanded very compelling. I do basically like X1 though, but I'll just wait and see what comes next.

    Passing on Expanded.

I like X1 and the smart tool but it just seems like there are so many work arounds (bugs) right now that I am beyond frustrated and looking for other options.

I don't really need Pro-channel or dedicated modules of plugs-in I already have. Fx chains would be cool but no biggie here, the browser should have been a two way street from day one.

In fact, I'm not spending another dime until Cakewalk gets the work arounds (bugs) that we've been living with fixed.

It would also be nice if someone from Cakewalk would give us some kind of idea when these fixes will arrive as the 'Year of X1' (or whatever the slogan was) is coming to an end soon.

    Kind regards,
    Rick

I'm still stuck on 8.5 Producer. I've been trying to look for a reason to upgrade to X1/Expanded but just can't find one. Plus The MIDI note skipping/drop-outs/etc i get with external synths makes me less interested in upgrading.

I'm a longtime user, i started with Pro Audio 9 and then went to Sonar 2, from Sonar 2 i upgraded every year and never missed a upgrade up to 8.5. X1 is the first upgrade i'll miss in many many years. I don't think i like the direction Cakewalk is going in but understand others do, it's just not for me. I have plenty of high-quality plugins so no need for Pro-Channel. In the past Cakewalk was making major additions in functionality to Sonar (Step-Sequencer, Matrix, 64Bit O/S support, etc) but lately it seems a few minor editing features and more plugins. I'm aware others love what Cakewalk is doing lately but me and people like me are unhappy with their direction. I hope they are just taking their time to release major features i like and that X2 will be big, time will tell. For now i have not been motivated to reach for my wallet and Cakewalk use to keep me spending money (on Sonar upgrades and many other products).

So for the folks who find Expanded too much, or more likely, not aligned to your needs. There is Sonar Studio.
Recently, Studio and Producer seemed to be converging. Now with Pro Channel the two units can cut their individuality more actually.
I see this as a win for Cakewalk. So unless you users want to jump ship, Sonar Studio ought to be your viable option.

Well - Getting Z3TA+ 2, Sonar X1 Expanded and the PC4K S Type Expander Gate Module bundled together for an attractive price was enough for me. I purchased the bundle a few day's ago, and do not regret it one bit. So - I am one of the people that do not belong to the "Didn't Upgrade" camp..

X1c perfectly fits my needs right now. I've never used the FX chains so adding skins doesn't appeal to me. And I'm also perfectly happy with the current tube saturation in PC. I may later on but I'm really waiting for the PRV / snap / drum map bug to get fixed in (GASP) X1d!

I did not expand, as a matter of fact just found the courage to install X1 a week or 2 ago,was waiting for X1c to be "cleared" on the forum, which it still hasn't been for most. I wonder if Cake realizes the scare X1 has brought to so many loyal users, and God forbid if you just jumped on the forum for the first time, say, a day or 2 after release(still scary), the "first impression", probably scared away a bunch of potential buyers. I have said before, I just play for fun, but I feel so sorry for you guys who have had their world flipped upside down, surely someone from Cake has to be listening? What is over half, if not 3/4 of reason for not expanding in this post, fix X1 first, then people will expand, and by fix, I mean bugs, I know it works great for some, and for what I do works great. But it seems pretty simple, as soon as X1d?, you will see more people jumping back on the Cakewagon, if it fixes what needs fixed.

I think you'll find it's the exact opposite - many users who were experiencing the odd problem with X1B & prior have reported that X1C has cleared most of the problems up.

At this point I've skipped it as well.  As others have said, I don't use the ProChannel, so FX chains isn't enough for me to drop the extra money down for it.

Cloned-last-track still dropping into next folder.
Audio engine still shuts down after recording a take.
Clean folder still scans every drive without control or stopping.
    ProChannel still not detachable.
    VocalStrip still overwriting original presets.
