Who gets my $149, Cakewalk or a Dealer? ANSWERED

Do existing users order from Cakewalk or a Dealer?
"Upgrades are also available from select dealers."

What gives??

Typically, there's a discount for resellers.  So if you buy it from an "authorized dealer" then a certain percent goes to the dealer and the rest goes to Cakewalk.  Just like any other retail setting.

If you buy it directly from Cakewalk I'm sure that there's a certain amount of cost that they have to absorb.  Hosting a massive store like they do (whether they host it internally or not) costs a tremendous amount of money.  I'd bet the numbers all work out in the end.

And if you buy at a retailer your year starts when you REDEEM not when you pay.

Whereas if you but at the CW store your year starts when you pay.

So, say you want to purchase now (instead of after the introductory price) but may not install for three months due to scheduling etc. Buy at the retailer and it would be like getting 15 months of updates in this (literal) example.

I wonder If they like vendors become they won't have to pay PayPal or credit card fees for each sale?

I don't understand the pricing strategy concerning Cakewalk and vendors such as Sweetwater, JRR, etc. My wife was the US Importer for a Swedish Knife manufacturer for 20 years. She had three pricing levels, Distributor, Wholesale and Dealers. She as the importer would not sell to end users unless no one carried a particular Knife.
It's interesting that Cakewalk sells their product for the same price as Sweetwater. Sweetwater has costs associated with selling the product (i.e. CC charges, running the WEB site, inventory of boxed product) just like Cakewalk.

What is the incentive to buy from Sweetwater?

I've never dealt with JRR. Are they reliable?

AFA pricing, some, such as JRR sell with a group discount and are making money, some such as Sweetwater, sell the same price as the Cake store, and make money.
Its the profit margin..Now I purchse3d mine from Sweetwater because, historically, they have access to the licenses quicker, and if there is an issue with anything, I can call/email them and they bend over backwards to make it right.

I cannot speak for JRRs customer support, but 24 dollars more is worth the service.

JRR is great and saved me lots on both Symphobia and FabFilter's bundles at Xmas. I also use Sweetwater as their customer service/followup/knowledge is unparalleled... However, I will always buy direct from the bakers so the maximum money goes to support the team creating the most important part of my studio...

It's the same reason I buy nearly all my food from locally owned Farmer Joe's in the bay area or from our wonderful farmers markets... they are closest to the organic producers or are the producers of the food I want to put into my bod...

I just bit.  I personally think you'll notice a big difference in performance coming from X1.  I don't know what your workflow is, but mine changed drastically going from 1 to 2 and then to 3.  Lots of great stuff to look forward to not even factoring in this new version.

Yup, I bought a bunch of kits for EZDrummer2 from JRR last year. At the exchange rate at the time, they were only costing just over £19 each ! My serial numbers and download links arrived in good time, and most importantly, when registered after installation, they appeared in my Toontrack account along with all my other Toontrack products. To ensure the same thing happens smoothly with Cakewalk, I would make sure you order using the same email address that you use for your Cakewalk SSO account, to ensure the product is registered in your account. Using the discount code, at the current exchange rate, the cost to us Brits for the Sonar Platinum upgrade is just a fraction over £85 ! How good is that !

I normally buy directly from the Cake store...but at the time they were not offering any way to order.  But in the end, I'm a purchaser anyway :) .
