    I'm hoping so.

Also if anybody needs a reference for making custom knobs, buttons and backgrounds check out the bitmaps that get installed into 'Cakewalk Content/SONAR X1 Producer/FX Chain Graphics' for dimensions etc

Will I have to install X1 Expanded to make a FX chain skin?

Mike you can use any PNG image as a skin.  But if you don't have Expanded how will you see the FX chain?
And I am pretty sure you have to have it on your system to save said skin as a FX Chain.   There are a lot of options on what you can change about the face of the skins.  Make it look the way you want.

Nope this isn't a competition or contest of any kind think of it like a barter I need some visually interesting FX Chains and am willing to trade whatever swag I can find around the office

    Thanks for the link Willy.

Here is something I put together for you:

edit: I pulled the zip file and I'm just posting the .png files straight to the web... see the posts below for FX Chain skin assets that may be saved and used freely.

I made two rotary knobs out of images of African masks but they are small and may be too small.

Anyways, this might be useful to get started... if you want to comp something up and send a screen shot of your chain maybe we can tweak some details or do the other elements to make a nice finished look.

I hope you have fun with it.

    best regards,
    mike

    hmm..

this has given me an  idea for some free vsts I have which don't have a GUI.... I'm speculating that I could make some using this?

I wonder if Cakewalk will start hosting and allow users to share designs?

If Cakewalk does not, you can use SonarMods which has already an area for FX Chains ;-).

@ .. on another forum in another universe we are talking about chicken in a can.. grim don't describe it!?! .. I knocked up a template for paint .net, but the thing is if they could include a mask to "darken" or "lighten" behind the dials it'd be good.. as you don't know how many buttons / dials will be on each "chain" interface.

While you can import files of different dimensions, doing so will cause the chosen image to stretch to fit. To avoid this, make sure your images are the proper width and height. As below:

My great grandfather in W. Virginia had a two-headed chicken preserved in a jar amongst all the cherries and apples.  It was in a dank, dark basement that wasn't well lit.  Scared the bejebbers out of me as a kid.

yes, something weird is going on in my knob renders... thanks for pointing that out.

I am pasting together 129 54x54 pic squares but it's ending up as 13,000+

Aha... I just figured out what happened I did a re render and... they'll be fixed by tonight. :-)

FWIW, the leopard skins are hand painted right here. The knobs are as well. The zebra is from a photo I took at a zoo.
