Who is using the ProChannel Concrete Limiter?

Are you using it on tracks? How does it sound? Is it transparent? Is it helping to keep tracks from peaking when summing to mix? How many db's are you trying to reduce? Do you recommend it?

All serious/helpful replies welcome.

    I love the CL.

I use it on tacks, buses and the master - not on all of them all the time, obviously.

It sounds great.  Amount of db reduction varies.  Around 3 seems t be nice for gentle work, more if I want to push it.  I've used it on most things.  Drums  sound fantastic, as does bass.  Even used it on 12 string acoustic with great results.  Don't tend to use it on vocals, preferring PC76 followed by PC2A.

    Yes, I'd highly recommend it.

I think it's excellent, quite possibly the best Pro Channel Module they've created in my humble opinion.

Since I got it, it's the only limiter I use anywhere in my mixes.

Not using it on tracks. I used Ozone 5 for all of my mastering chores until I got CL. I do use CL sometimes now as my mastering tool. It is very low in CPU usage and has a character that is very musical. I like the bass boost feature for those occasions when the tracks are a little anemic and need that little low end boost. It is probably one of the more useable plugs that the Bakers came up with. I have done projects with just the plugs that came in Sonar. The results have been surprisingly good! If they had made CL available earlier I probably would have saved the money I spent on Ozone. Although, I still find uses for Ozone, it is pretty cpu intensive. I got the CL when it was $10! Best money I spent. It is worth far more as far as bang for the buck! Bottom Line: Worth the full price hands down!

I use it all the time as well, mainly on buses. Not normally on the master bus for music projects, I have Ozone 4 and the Waves L1 & L2 to choose from. But I use it on the master bus for all my broadcast work. It was one of those "it's about freakin' time" plug-ins for me when it came out.

Forgot to mention the bass button.  I tend to use it on bass and drums and it beefs them up nicely.

I'd also highly recommend the PC2A.

I really like the CL and use in in tracking quite a bit to tame rogue peaks.  Works super on bass and kick drum... note the bass feature.
I would say get the CL..you won't be disappointed.

I do use Ozone as my final mastering limiter however.

    Cheers!

I would not use any FX while "tracking"  meaning recording because it only effects the monitor return not the input signal. Thus it would give you a false reading on your levels.

    Use it after for mixing.

Yes - good point. Earlier they were willing to sell it for $49 and even $10 depending on the conditions.

I have already spent $$ for the Sonar x2 upgrade and $99 for the TH2 - that's in addition to ProChannel Expanded, Rapture full version upgrade (which was included two months later in X2!!), and a bunch of other PC plugs (in fact, I think I have all of them now EXCEPT for the Concrete Limiter).

I personally love the CL, you can achieve some very interesting results when used with other plugins, the one method I like to use regularly is to really push the threshold on certain samples, it can drag out and extend any built in effect the sample may have and can sound rather pleasing.

I use it a fair bit and love it, not my favourite PC module, that is the PC2A, but the limiters pretty good all the same.

    +1

I do likewise myself quite frequently:
    • concrete limiter on tracks (for it's low CPU consumption); sometimes even while tracking (I'm getting John worried again!), but only for recorded raw tracks that are sent to headphone mixes
    • TRacks Brickwall in the busses and sometimes master as this is a really superb brickwall (or maybe I just got so used to it)

I love the CL - I use it on buses only. There are a few exeptions to the rule but it's the best bus limiter ever!

And I track while monitoring through it to from time to time - depending on stuff - yes John, there are many rules but whatever works, works, right? LOL

the thing about DAWs, the beauty of it is that you can monitor your signal through the weirdest things. Sometimes you'd want to and I want to very often because I have about 3 seconds to do a 90 minute job that should be sent to the client yesterday. I try to hear the mix as early as possible sometimes. Limiters introduce some significant latency. I love the Pro-L and that's my go-to limiter for the serious final limiting. Or I use Ozone for more detailed stuff. Or I use Ozone with the Pro-L. It depends. But I can't track through these because the latency is murder! And a compressor is not always the best "limiter emulation".

The CL is a VERY capable limiter and introduce little or no latency. It's a great tracking limiter and it's a great bus limiter with it's Bass Limit thingamabop switch thingy.

but if you ever want to track while monitoring through a Limiter, the CL is perfect!

    Whatever works, roight?
