Me personally, I blame the economy, as well as the standards of morality among the youth.

Kids have too much expectation of something for nothing these days.

That 'splains your disdain for The Beatles then. Parents are the only ones who can instill these virtues in the yutes of today.

I dunt disdain 'em. They just never really floated my boat, together or individually. I liked Back Off Boogaloo for about a week though, it had a pic of Frankenstein's Monster on the sleeve.

Your facts recall was exceptional on this one Mooch.

However, Maurice was using a composition by each of four Beatles in a three part example of why he rated them the way he did.

BTW Maurice, Ringo should lose his 5% on the basis of Yellow Submarine alone. Give to Paul, based on Mooch's fact finding mission.

For me it's Paul.

But I'm curious if anyone shares my opinion - when John and Paul where part of The Beatles - when they were a unit, so to speak - their level of composition was pure genius.

Then each went his own way, and it's like they "dumbed down".

Lennon. His voice had that quality that could send a shiver down your spine, even after you've heard it a million times.

In the end, to me it's what music is about. Paul was probably a more consistent songwriter, a better musician, more diverse in his talents, and he wrote some amazing songs. But his voice never got through to me the way Lennon's does. The guy could sing about reading a newspaper and it still cuts right through...

I agree

Paul has stated numerous times he prefers a writting partner to bounce ideas off of .... Hence his consistent collaborations in the 80s .... He has stated that working with Elvis Costello was as close to John as he could get

Paul often cites getting better and John ad libbing the lyric couldn't get any worse as an example of the collberation with John he misses

Mooch,

Jonbouy lives in very close proximty to Sir Paul's studio in the Sunny Southern Coast of the UK (I've seen it). You should have asked him to stand up @ your wedding. Jonbouy's entourage usually includes Sir Paul.

I agree with you Rain, John’s voice could send shivers down your spine.

Yoko.  One of the benefits of digital down load is that I can now pick only the “John Songs” from Double Fantasy for down load.  I can leave the cat screeching behind.

People give George Martin, Geoff Emerick and Ken Scott too much credit for the Beatles success.

I would love to listen to something that Pete Best did, to see if he actually had more talent than Ringo, but I have n’t heard an actual album that he has ever played on.  I believe that Martin encouraged the group to replace Best in favor of a better drummer.

Paul was a slave driver in the end.  I am glad he was though.  I’m not sure that the group would have actually finished the last 3 albums if he had not pushed them to record the songs.  John kind of check out somewhere after Sgt Pepper.
