Who to target?

So I have an upcoming gig at a local coffe/smoothie shop. Happy upbeat place that supports loud music (totally not a bar or a starbucks but a happy medium). My music is alternative rock. Stuff like Fall Out boy, Incubus, Motion City Soundtrack is what you would classify me in. Im 19. I want people to enjoy my music but hopefully get some tips in there too. Of course my friends of all ages enjoy my music but I am not sure who to pass my flyers out to. Any hints?

    Hello,

Good luck on your gig. A gig like this is a chance to learn your trade. Act in a professional manner when dealing with the establishment (have one member act a liaison). Be prompt (very important). You need to "paper the house" that is fill the place with your crowd including all your friends and their friends and your parents and their friends and their friend's kids. As many of your people that you can drum up. If you can get your gig listed in the local paper it might not bring in anybody but you can use it as your first clipping. But, you can't count on strangers until you have a following (and then they are your fans not strangers). Very important: if you can get a review even if it is the local town paper. A review is golden especially with a photo because it goes in your press package. Tips? I don't work for tips, but if you had a CD even a 4 song EP that you burned, you might sell a few for $5.00 each. And if you bring in enough people and they all order smoothie's and coffee you may very well get asked back. Then see if you can rock your own crowd.

great advice. Ya, I am with ya on the professional manner part. It seems if I try to crack a joke under pressure, no one laughs. lol. So I am going to keep it calm and controlled. Unfortunantely, I am having a computer issue when recording (which the guys here are helping me fix) so I was not able to pull anything out for the gig. the venue is this Saturday so I doubt I will have enough time to throw it in the paper. Great idea though! I will remember it for next time.

A good answer from yourself to the original question IMO...
