Who wants to help me recreate an '80s power ballad?

Whoah... It's been a long time since I've been on here.

But I'll get right to the point! I've been wanting to cover this song, XYZ - Souvenirs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d--GddN13o&feature=player_embedded for a few years now. I'm a keyboardist and I learned the main guitar parts on piano, but it just doesn't capture the feel of the original. I then attempted to learn it on my guitar (I can hardly play guitar). Got the intro down a few years ago but I haven't improved since then. I'm a really unsteady guitar player lol. I'd have to record, without exaggeration, over 200 sessions to get the whole song.

I remember I did an awesome collab with Alkie, Mark, and some others back in 2008/09 of a different 80s song - ( http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=544524&songID=8024471 )

And I think mamabear/Janet can vouch for me (if she remembers me, haha) that I'm not just some random user. I'm really serious about it!

I want to sing it. And I've gotta be honest, I'm not an amazing singer... But it's something that I have to do. I can't match the vocals in the original key, but 2 steps down I could do it if I really tried (strained).

I'd really appreciate any help!  I'll even consider an all acoustic guitar version if I can't get enough people who are interested. As an example, these two guys on youtube did a nice acoustic version albeit with iffy vocals lol - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxQzjsNW9IU

This song means a lot to me, so I'll find a way to do it one way or another, even if it means recording the 200+ guitar parts in order to get a good take.

I can't help you with the guitar parts, as I am a keys person as well. But I am interested to see how this project works out. You might try posting what you have (when you have something) and see if somebody with git chops picks up the ball then. Good luck!

Why don't you just get the original guitar player from XYZ.. him and Kip Winger are sharing a one bedroom at the retirement home in Irvine.

Seriously.. that's gonna be a tough one to sing ; )

Lol! I actually emailed one of the old guitarists about a year and a half ago but they never responded. Although these days, I am friends with the drummer and the lead singer on Facebook, and they actually respond to comments and messages. Maybe I'll ask them if they have an instrumental lying around (I doubt it...).

@Foxwolfen, thanks for the support. I contacted Mark (marcos69) and he said he'd be happy to help with guitar, but maybe in a few months or so when he's not busy with his current band. Hopefully I'll have something by then, though.

Right now it's more or less a concept, haha. I got a PM about doing the guitar parts already. If someone who's experienced in programming drums would like to give that ago, you're more than welcome. Otherwise I may put together a basic drum track temporarily, as well as bass.

Haha, same here. I can play alright in Am... That's about it.
I just friend requested all of the members of the band. Maybe one of them will be bored enough to contribute.
As of right now, this is the only midi I have. It's kind of empty. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3...yz_souvenirs%20(1).mid

And if anyone ends up adding to it, keep in mind that it's about 2-3 steps too high for my vocal range.

edit: Seems like I have someone for Acoustic and Electric guitar, as well as drums. I'll take care of bass and keys myself.  This might be coming along!
