I gave a humble hundy brutha.

Seriously, I had an endorsement previously but this new company gave it to all of us for free. I support that.

I am sitting here listening to my current project in Cakewalk, the new name for SONAR, and it sounds frikkin' dope because I make really cool **** in this program.

I was so sad when it looked like this software would go away.

Of course I donated!

It will be interesting to see how many people who said they'd be willing to pay to keep Sonar going will do so now that there's an option to do so.
I'm feeling the need for a mug myself

I did, but got an error. So I clicked again. Another error. Then I got a text from my bank alerting me of possible suspicious activity. I assume my card was being charged in Singapore so they probably put a red flag on it since I haven't been there since 2003. But I verified the Bandlab charge and I was able to send in my tip eventually.

Although I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't able to choose my T-shirt or mug style (and much less the t-shirt size) for my $99 tip. But I posted this on the Cakewalk/Sonar Users Group Facebook Page and Meng himself replied to me on the page that a customer service person would be emailing me later regarding the shirt and mug.

Better question would be what have they done to earn it.

Kept the program from dying.

Dude!

Thank you for letting me know!
I emailed them about this and had not gotten a response yet....

I think they are waiting for a decent number of orders before they actually "take orders".

I think that is kind of ghetto on their behalf but if they follow through,. I'm cool with that.

But in the future, Caewalk/Bandlab, if you ask for tip money and offer something for it that involves choosing/options, make sure you provide a way for us to choose those options upon taking our money. Otherwise, it looks very "shady"/VERY unprofessional. Seriously. Come on guys...

I decided to go for the $99 tip for T-shirt and mug. I pressed the radio button choosing the $99 tip for Tshirt and mug.
The system was quick to take my money, I was given no choice over T-shirt style or size or the mug.

Meng himself told me on the Cakewalk Sonar User Group Facebook page that a Bandlab customer service staffer will get back to you later via email regarding the t-shirt and mug styles.

We should not have had to get this information from you via your inquiry on Facebook but at least they responded and thank you for the information.

The people complaining about the free version of SPLAT can kiss my ass but for those of us that tipped to support it, yeah, they need to be more professional with that.

Hey Lance, I'm very very sorry about that, and appreciate your support and feedback. We've clarified the Thank You message so that it lets the user know that one of our team will contact to confirm size, design if a reward is eligible and it's already in production. We have an FAQ link that will go up on that page too soon.

I'll donate once bandlab puts the stereo interleave and phase buttons back on the track view and shows that they want to bring cakewalk back to being a professional product like it was before the X series and all the garbage that's been done to the program since that.

And please tell me that Bandlab didn't bring the imbecile over to the new company who was responsible for removing the phase and stereo interleave buttons.  That guy should have been fired the day X1 debuted.

Some of us love the X series interface and most of the updates.

(and I started using Sonar 2.0).   No way would I want to go back to the pre X-series interface.

I got as far as entering my CC details when I learned the only option is to "Save Card". Sorry, no go. I've seen enough data breaches over the years to refuse to hand over my card details to anyone who intends to store them. Add a one-time use option and I'll gladly drop some money towards development.

I'll top it up when the installer adds an option to install in the destination of my choosing (one of the reasons I threw out the CbB installation I made for trial purposes is that I don't like to pollute my limited-space C drive). And toss in some more when the BandLab assistant stops triggering every malware detection program I have running.

Oh, and I'll throw in an extra buck or two if the icon colour is changed from the McDonald's take-your-food-and-get-out orange to something a bit more classy. I'll admit the old SONAR icon was a bit understated, but at least it didn't look cheap.

I don't think the people who have been going to piratebay for years to get Cakewalk will contribute.

I think Cakewalk should be free only to registered users of any sonar product and 100 dollars to all other people. The 100 dollar fee should be charged at least for a year until all the piratebay users have "paid their" dues. Make them walk the plank. :)

Just my opinion but I do like the free model too.

Once I recover from the 500 dollar price and the 200 dollar updates for life fee and a year of paying subscriptions I may donate but I will definitely buy new synths, sounds/loops and synth upgrades that are made for Cakewalk.

I am glad they took my suggestion to just call it Cakewalk. It will always be Cakewalk to me. Now Cakewalk by Bandlab. Great new name! :)

Would give $49 dollars for a Mug thrown in but Customs would probably charge me the same again plus  VAT so it would be a pretty expensive Mug.

You don't buy the MUG, it's a reward for making a tip. I presume it will be sent as a gift.

Sell those black mugs for $15 I would get one.  I don't like coffee mugs either but that black one is sweet.

Your missing the point, nobody's selling mugs, it's a reward you get for making a donation/giving a tip to CB.

That depends on whether or not your country has a free trade agreement with the country sending the mugs. If you could find out which country they ship from, you could find out if you'll have to pay excessive duties or not.

EU anything outside is duty, duty and more duty.

I was absolutely ECSTATIC to be able to firmly indicate my support and happiness for the new lease on development for Cakewalk, and while I am a bit less enamored with Gibson about their role in it all, the Bandlab folks had nothing to do with any of that, and quite conversely have REALLY earned my instant respect for stepping in and not only saving Sonar/Cakewalk, AND for allowing existing users to freely port over, they REALLY further kicked it up another several notches by allowing the rest of the planet to come on board to a basic version of Cakewalk for free.  I think that was a BRILLIANT way to get a lot more folks using and hopefully expanding the customer base down the road.

I would also be lying if I didn't harbor a large sense of joy at getting a coffee mug out of it all, but I really didn't mind investing $49 to help out.  I just hope that my love of composing music with odd meters won't make the coffee slosh out of the new Cakewalk by Bandlab mug....

Re: Who's Going to Contribute to the Tip Jar? 2018/04/11 12:37:57 (permalink)
I made a small donation. Main reason for this is that I admire Meng's business model. It's modern and progressive.

I see some in here still have the mindset of the old slave economy. Only pay because you are forced to.
Here is a golden opportunity for something new, pay according to means and set your own price for what you think it is worth. If you value something, and have the means ... the honorable thing to do is support what you are using ... not just by words ... but by action. Under the current global regime, that means sharing some of your economic power. Hopefully enough people will see this, and many small drops will make an ocean of resources for development.

It's not about buying mugs and t-shirts, it's about voluntarily supporting the development of the DAW through donations. The rewards received are just tokens of donation. It makes a statement, saying I support Cakewalk by BandLab.

For me, I mark $50 as "cheap" to keep Cakewalk moving forward.
