Beepster I absolutely freaking despise it. Worst program EVAR! Therefore I'm going to hang out here day in and day out to tell you all how much it sucks and how wrong you all are for liking it. Kay?
LOL, this is sooo Funny! Beepster must have had a great Christmas.
My thought exactly!! Very happy camper here, the sum total of what we've received in the last 12 months has been nothing less than phenomenal! And acquiring it in monthly, bit sized chunks has certainly made the learning curve a LOT less steep than getting it all in one go. Looking forward to what 2016 has in store for us

I love Sonar or SPLAT as it is referred too lately. I totally hate the fact I have less and less time to use it. Can't the bakers add a time shift function where we can stop the time clock so we have more time to record Or maybe a time travel function so we can go back to when we had time LOL!
Cheers sycle1 There is no cure for stupidity, I should know!!!

In the grander scheme of things, I'm happy with Sonar Plat. I'm especially happy with the stability as I will trade stability for "new features" any day. I primarily write orchestral music, and thus do feel that e.g. Cubase has a better feature set (at least "on paper"). However, in view of the "grass is greener on the other side", and Cakewalks very aggressive development schedule, it most definitely seems worthwhile giving Sonar time to mature. Allan

I'm happy with SONAR, and especially happy with the direction it's taken in the last year. But I'm not as happy as I'd like to be. I still experience too many audio dropouts on modest projects, especially considering the power of my system. I still get project files that seem to develop a curse of one kind or another; crashes, dropouts, distorted sound, what have you, that can only be fixed (as far as I can tell) by rebuilding the project in another file. This is not by any means a constant set of problems, but they are too frequent for my complete satisfaction. Now I understand very well that it's not reasonable to call this a dissatisfaction with SONAR. It's very clear that DAW performance is a complex phenomenon involving not only the DAW software but my interface, OS, configuration, ALL my hardware, any other software that may be running with or without my knowledge, etc, etc. I didn't start doing this yesterday. More like 25 years ago, not counting pre-computer recording technology. I've built a dozen or more PCs, and researched hardware and setup for audio extensively, not to mention making a sizeable investment in good quality hardware. So if someone tells me increase the audio buffers to reduce ticks or disable my network card, I don't mind at all - always grateful for any attempt to help - but I'm not learning something new. And still weird glitches happen, most of the time completely unresponsive to the standard fixes. And though I may catch flak for this, the bottom line is that this doesn't happen when I run Excel, or PhotoShop, or CyberDirector (OK, Vegas yes...). Forgive the long vent. I love SONAR, and I'm not changing DAWs. For one thing, I've been using it and its predecessors since 1988, for another I have no reason to think there's anything better. But I hope for a day when the probability of the program running and performing exactly as expected is similar to most other software on my computer.

About 6 or 8 years ago I got totally frustrated with the Cakewalk problems I was experiencing, and I posted something to the effect that I was going to look elsewhere...probably Pro Tools. A few wise souls on this forum kindly advised me to stick around. I'm glad I did. Aside from the many improvements made by Cakewalk, I've gradually learned the program fairly well, and although I still don't consider myself a power user, I can be productive when I want/need to. (Reading this forum is a big help.) And looking back, many of those problems were undoubtedly due to my own inexperience and a computer not properly tweaked. Anyway, 2015 has been the best year ever for Sonar. Is it perfect? No. Will it ever be? No. Is it awesome? Yes. I wish I had a crystal ball and could see what it will be like 5 years from now. Guess I'll just have to continue to stick around.

In all the years of recording that I have been involved in, I have had to learn to use just about any DAW that you can name! There has conspicuously been only one on my home project computer and it has been Sonar. While all DAWs fall a bit short of doing everything problem-free, Sonar has remained my goto for audio and midi along with other DAWs in combination for decades. Thankfully, over the years Sonar has evolved in to a DAW that stands on it's own merits. For the last several years I have not had to go outside of Sonar to get my job done. The past year has been astounding! The DAW has grown leaps and bounds, the support has been world class, and we have even picked up a lot of new knowledgeable friends along the way. I was very skeptical about the future of Sonar when the company started changing hands two years ago. Thank fully, Sonar seems to have fallen in to the right hands! I am very excited about a new year starting and what may be coming down the pike! Congrats, Sonar!!! You're growing up!

Thanks, Craig. I have clicked on that, but the information there is all familiar to me. My I/O buffers are at 256. I probably sound like an arrogant know it all, but I'm not really. I learn things on this forum all the time from people like you. But when it comes to tweaking, I've been around the block more than a couple of times and I still get weird problems. It hasn't stopped me from finishing a couple of compilations in the last that I'm very happy with, but occasional interruptions remain part of using the software.

Honestly, considering the amount of money I've made over the years with Cakewalk i don't know how i could be anything but overjoyed. I just wish i could get back working like i use to 'cause so many things i use to struggle with are now so very easy to do in Sonar. The TV Doc biz left my town, so i am left to fight my way back into a new music market. The cool thing is that Sonar has evolved into what is exactly the right tool for me to do so...Although I do wish Staff View would get a little better. This is going to be fun!!

May I suggest we avoid troubleshooting or problem solving in this thread. I would encourage a new thread to deal with any issues members may have. It is only a suggestion.

I have a few minor gripes, or rather opportunities I think Cakewalk could gain some serious attention from in the Pro market, but overall, things have improved far beyond what I call the "X2 orphan".
Many of my gripes were those of stability and buggy issues. Many of those have been vastly improved upon since X3. And just like the company I work for, there comes a time when the priority or focus is placed on speed, reliability, and stability. If they continue this trend once in a while, Sonar should be a welcome change to those nay-sayers.
I'd still like to see Sonar compatible with Mac OS X, but building a PC is still cheaper, and Windows has been quite stable, lately. So, until Microsoft wets their own bed again, like they did with Vista, I'm here for a while longer.

Sonar works for me. Bugs there will always be, as long as every person has a unique computer (PC and Mac). But CW's level of customer service and willingness to communicate with us is second to none in the DAW business, as far as I can tell. That counts in my book.
