Who's in good shape for playing the tambourine?

I just bought a nickle one and a brass one... and I'm playing my arms off trying to get in shape for doing it with style.

:-)

It's been a lot of fun searching out and viewing hi end tambourine playing.

I've got a whole lot to learn!!!

our band leader took the tamborine away from our alto.  she wasn't playing it right.

Many years ago, I was recording a demo for an R&B bar band.  Their style was very loose and rather sloppy.  Timing and pitch were philosophical ideals more than concrete realities.  Anyway, the lead singer decided that what would make the song gel would be a solid tambourine track.  He spent more studio time recording that track than on all the rest of the tracks combined.  I can still remember him, sweating like a pig, working harder than he had ever worked in his life, burning every functioning neuron playing that tambourine.

When it was finally over, he was only a shell of the man he had been, but the tambourine track was the best sounding track of the day.  Sadly, the rest of the tracks couldn't measure up.

They weren't that sly, or a family.  The "Stone" part does seem surprisingly accurate, however.

Just a suggestion. If you want to get really good at tambourine I would google and you tube search all things Davey Jones and of course the legendary Tracy from the Partridge Family. You'll get schooled really quick in tambourine playing from those two legends.

    Thank you Mooch.

    I'll do that.

I've been listening to Jack Ashford with a bit of focus, and I've been watching some traditional styles on Youtube.

I'm having a lot of fun listening for the tambourine.

I suspect learning more about this is going to have an effect on my trap kit drumming! :-)

    best regards,
    mike

This one seems simple yet incredibly informative:

    http://www.youtube.com/wa...eQ&feature=related

One thing that I've been interested in is learning how I may possibly use tambourine over a E kit to liven up the feel of the whole. The parts played in the demo linked to here seem to add a lot of energy even though the parts are really very simple.

I think I took the tambourine for granted until recently.

    best regards,
    mike

    Tambourines are somewhat safe.

If you really want to be "edgy", you might want to use live rattlesnakes instead.  It takes real dedication to your art to shake those guys.
