mike_mccue http://soundcloud.com/tony-carpenter-1/why-im-still-here The harmonies sound fantastic! Mike, just listened to your Should've been Blonde, back at ya!. Very nice production!. Tony, this is all done with CW and Sonitus f/x. My lead vocal has the CW multivoice flange/chorus inserted into the f/x bin set to 6voice chorus. From there it goes to a buss that has a Sonitus gate>Perfect Space with the Choir Room preset. Thanks for asking and the kind words, and good to see you, too. Makzimia Lynn Well done, Tony. Very nice tune Tony. ... production is good, vocals are top notch as are the harmonies. My only crit is some of the guitar solo notes don't sound "natural" to my ear, and what I was expecting based on the major scale. Overall... very nice work.... post some more stuff....

It's a process... It takes time, effort and experience... I'm sometimes amazed at the progress my fellow forum members, and I have made in a relatively short amount of time... Your production exhibits a great amount of technical & musical skill... The obvious problems for me here, are the timing issues which may be easily repaired... play with it, keep at it, and have fun... Well done...

dcumpian Great vocals! I would like to hear the acoustic guitar beefed up a little though. Regards, Dan Hi Dan, nice to meet you :). Thank you for your comment, I made the mistake of double tracking the acoustic, only used the jack on DI off my Taylor. Then I used an effect chain to make it sound electric on the double up. I am definitely going back to this song, another comment had me up at 3:30am today pulling the original tracks out of Logic Pro and pushing them over to the PC for some Sonar X2 love :D. Tony

Hi Herb, nice to meet you :). Thank you!. I try to keep my vocals coming out the best I can, I am never sure.. seems to a general consensus I got this one right. The 'Guitar solo' is actually a patch on my old XV-88 Roland called Feedback :). I am a good rythmn guitarist, but not that good of a lead guitarist.. so.. when I wanted lead guitar, I used that live, with mod wheel etc to taste as I played. I am going back to the song after pulling it into X2 now, and I'll tweak the overall song, and I'll probably sit that a little differently. Oh and Herb, if you click my link below on Sound Cloud, I have 5 other different tunes on there already. More coming :). Tony

I find the recording thing sometimes exciting, most times time consuming, rather play :). Because of your comment, which btw was spot on!, I was up at 3:30am this morning pulling the original tracks out of Logic Pro and bringing them over to the PC for X2 love. I made the mistake of copying and pasting badly on part of the song to make it. I always felt it was just that little bit out, but, I was in hurry to finish an album of some stuff for family/demo etc.. neverfinisheditis aside. Cheers, Tony

I listened to this song a couple days ago. I think it is nicely done and a good song but it needs a chorus or something to break it up. I looked at the wave and realized before I listened that whatever it is it will be the same all the way through. Now, that's not bad, it is just my preference to have a B, or B and C part. Nicely written and played, though.

Most songs I have written do follow a chorus / bridge thing, this was an exception :). Part of the issue is really that you can't hear the difference in the play style of the guitar at the moment too. I'll be curious to see what you think when I have finished tweaking it all soon. Thank you for your input, I do value all input very much, particularly critique. Cheers, Tony

Hmm, thought I'd already commented on this - seems to happen sometimes - not sure if it's me or the software ! Mix sounds very good to me - nice clear vox which I always like. Seems to be a couple of timing issues - I'd like to tell you exactly where I heard them, but I can't get it to play again.

A very well written piece. I reallly like your vocal/harmonies. The mix on my end sound clean but a smidge bright. Maybe its just me and my room but I would add just a hair mid and low end EQ. KUDOS Tony! Kev

Paulo, thank you, yes as pointed out by someone else, there are definitely some timing issues. And thank you for kind words about the vocals, seems to be about the only thing I get consistently right LOL. Kev, Many thanks for listening!. I am going to do a complete remix of this, and some new tracks, guitar suffered badly (on record) and in the mix at least, and drums need some more oomph. Appreciate all comments, and recommendations always. Tony

Hey man, I enjoyed listening to your track. It's got a solid vibe going on. My suggestions would be to revisit the guitar performances (I know you mentioned that earlier), since they seem to be a bit off rhythmically and I find it a bit distracting. Otherwise, the guitar part is quite nice. The vocal performance is great, but I found the reverb to be a bit much. For a long time, I used a lot of reverb to try to make vocals sit nicely in the mix. I later found that with a solid performance, some compression, the right EQ, and- perhaps most importantly- a good arrangement, the vocals can sit happily in a mix with little or no reverb at all. By contrast, I found too much reverb to sound a bit amateurish, to kill the presence of the vocal recording, and to thin the voice too much. I feel that the right vocal sound is the hallmark of a quality recording. Obviously none of this is easy, which is why we're all hear here to learn. :o] Keep plugging, amigo!

Heya, Vince is it?, Thanks for listening, I use reverb at various levels for flavour, one thing I am sure of it's a subjective view. If the vocals are clear and strong and sit out, they are right. However, I am also sure I can make it better still, and I am working on it. Means I haven't been on here much. I grabbed Ozone 5 and Alloy 2 yesterday, sounding better already. The use of the voicelive 2 made good harmnonies, but, I did run it all too close in IMO, I am going to run them out further, and, I have done a new vocal recording for better seperation in the field. New version hopefully up for hearing soon. Again, thank you for listening, and comments, it is all encouraging, and helpful :). Tony
