Why I've not been here today (untill now)

It was time for the annual Lincolnshire Small-bore County Championships again.

Anyone paying attention will remember that I was Ladies Champion last year.  This year I managed to retain my title AND win overall County Champion by beating all the men as well.

I'm told I'm the first woman to manage it and thus the first ever to hold both titles.

The tall trophy is the Ladies Champion trophy, the dragon handled one is the County Championship.

The other two are Class A winner and one of the individual competitions that ran concurrently.
The silverwear dates back to between 1911 - 1920 and is worth thousands (even in Bouy money).  (I need to check my house insurance cover...)

Cool! "Small-Bore" - What caliber(s) do you shoot in this competition? Ranges?  (Yes, "boy questions")

.22LR  but not the stuff that's 50c/1000  I payed about $200/1000 for the stuff I used today, and the 'good stuff' I use in nationals is more like $320/1000.

    Today was 80 shots @ 50m and 40 shots @ 25 yards  I scored 1171 ex 1200

Wow, armed AND accurate!  Great job Karyn!  Too bad the awards aren't shaped as something more worthwhile though (like a cowbell), but I'm sure they'll look great on display none-the-less.

Let us know when the Big Bore events come around 'cause I'm sure a few of us could qualify for that!

I've had a few cracks at 25m at a range. How do they score it Karyn? 4 cards at 25-10 targets per card, barrel warmers? sighters? 12 minutes/card?

People don't realize but to hit the centre of a target at 25 is not that easy- it's a pinhead.

    Congrats Karyn.

p.s. I remember reading the Ramones were obsessed with pinheads.

    Fantastic news Karyn.

    That's big time!!!

I encounter so many guys that can't even hit the side of a barn yet swear they are top shots. I've even seen guys miss the target clean and claim they hit it... as if we're not going to walk out and look when the range goes cold.

It's an honor to know someone who actually gets the lead thru the bull for real where the tally is confirmed.

I'm still hunting for a perfect 10 group into 1" at 100yd... I've made it too nine a few times but never better... I always choke.

All the best, I hope you savor your accomplishment.

    best regards,
    mike

People don't realize but to hit the centre of a target at 25 is not that easy- it's a pinhead.

    Congrats Karyn.

p.s. I remember reading the Ramones were obsessed with pinheads.

25 yard cards have 10 diagrams, 1 shot on each. Two cards side by side. + an old card to shoot "warmers" and "sighters".
50m cards have 4 diagrams (but twice as big), 5 shots on each. + 2 diagrams at the top for "sighters".
100 yard cards have 2 diagrams, 10 shots on each, + a 3rd diagram for "sighters"

Course of fire is 20 minutes total for 20 shots to count plus as many sighting shots as you want, followed by 10 minutes to change targets, move equipment if you're starting/finishing, etc.

Different competitions have different combinations of range and number of shots. Our County Championship is:

    1 - 40 @ 50 meters,  1 hour
    2 - 40 @ 50 meters,  1 hour
    3 - 40 @ 25 yards,    1 hour
    120 shots total
    4 - First 10 from 1 + first 10 from 2
    5 - Second 10 from 1 + First 10 from 3

    Class Aggregate: total of all shots, 1 + 2 + 3

As most people hit 8's, 9's and 10's we don't bother trying to add up the scores from each shot but simply count "dropped" points. So a perfect score would be 0

A 25 yard card looks like this (with a size reference)

Enlarged, the aiming mark looks like this...

The blue shows the size of the hole you get (with ragged edges) the red is the size of the bullet. At 25 Yards the whole bullet must pass inside the inner circle without breaking it to count as 10 (as shown).  In other words, you're trying to hit the little dot in the middle, which is just 1mm.

    sweet.

Yeah, my definition of gun control is being able to consistently hit your target....even and especially if it's moving.

At 25 yards, putting a .22 round into a target area that appears to be no more then 2 times the bullet width ....consistently, is not an easy task. But it sure sounds like fun.
