Why can't I get playback meter to shut down or adjust ??

No matter what I do, turn down the track fader, the meter is set for post fader, all of the midi info is set to "none"  (the program and device select, bank, channel, etc) Its a midi track used for a virtual instrument, but I even changed it to strictly controlling a midi module, there are no busses or effects running.  Changing the velocity level slider or on the notes on the tracks, doesn't effect it, input monitor is turned off, so it's peaking and won't change or shutoff, what the hell.................... can somebody help me ?????

thanks, (i hope)

I am not sure what you mean, but if you see something on a MIDI track itself, it has nothing to do with the audio output level or something.

The meter on the MIDI track is only showing MIDI activity. So - if a MIDI signal is generated (by the MIDI track) or received (by a MIDI device) the presence of the signals are reflected in the meter.

Unfortunately I am not on my "music" computer at this time, so I am not able to verify the above statements. But if my memory is not to flaky (it is early in the morning here - and I am nipping from my first coffee), I think this is what is happening.
