Why does Sonar X1 Exp not work with Cakewalk/Roland interfaces?
I have a Quad Capture on my desktop and a UA-25EX on my laptop. They both lose the interface requiring a reboot almost every time I use them. I'll be working and suddenly no sound and "no audio device" error. I look in the Win7 sound settings the drivers are there and active but no longer show up in Sonars audio device list. I would email tech "support" but they never answered my emails in the past. Anyone else have this problem? Win7 64bit, i7, 16gig RAM yada yada yada...

to say you would email but they would never respond isnt right. thats like saying hey,i have a problem .."do you want help"? no thats okay,id rather complain about it. if you think cake is slow on tech support respond(your probably right) but you can always call man. calling is the fastest way,ive done it,yes there is a on hold wait for a while but its worth getting to the bottom of your issue. now back you the issue. something is obviously letting the driver go on your interface. are you running two devices together,an interface and a usb keyboard? or just the interface? i havent had this happen to me once, but i have heard others say its happen to them. i know m audio devices sometimes do things like this. do you have any m audio devices? sorry if im sounding harsh man :)

The fun part is that it doesn't happen with my Echo 8 Pre or the Dell on board sound - only the Cakewalk/Roland interfaces. Those are both USB so perhaps that's a clue. This seems to have been a problem since expanded.

And I hate to say it and I know the Roland/Cake interfaces are supposed to be awesome but this is the type of stuff I figured might happen with their i/o's. They have enough cookin' as far as the instrument lines and Sonar. In that price range I'd feel more comfortable with a MOTU or another company who is more invested in their interface line of products. Everyone wants to do everything these days and it waters down the products. I hope you can get it worked out, vintagevibe. Maybe roll back the driver?

I don't find that weird at all actually. One thing was updated while another wasn't. Have you checked to see if there are any new driver releases for those devices? If not I'm sure something is coming down the pipe. The Cake/Roland stuff is supposed to work "seamlessly" with Sonar so I'd imagine there is some extra fanciness they include in the software/drivers to make that happen. It sounds like the device end of things isn't jibing with expanded. Once I get all my hardware in order and figure out exactly how I want things set up I'm probably going to blow up this system and restore it to when I had just built it then install everything I want/need the way I want it and essentially lock it down as far as updates/upgrades to avoid this type of mayhem.

I have been using a quad capture with x1 expanded for a few months on two machines with great luck. I don't wanna jinx myself but I have not had any problems. Might be a hardware problem or some old drivers.

Do you mean that SOnar a) does not see them as an audio device (not present in list of devices) or that b) they are present in the list but greyed out and not able to be selected?.. If it is b) then i have the same issue with my Access Virus Ti as an audio interface... i can use it as audio interface for everything in the computer, a vst host, windows default, maschine..but not sonar... it wont let me select it. another note, some devices do not like the pc going to sleep.. perhaps turn off usb hibernate.

@vintagevibe: you mention you can see the device in Windows, and that test sounds work. If you set your driver model to ASIO, it could be another program is using the device. Think Sonar has to have exclusive usage an ASIO device, so check if no other programs are running in the background that are using audio. Another option would be telling windows not to use the device. This sounds the wrong way around, but in this way you make sure the ASIO drivers have exclusive access to the device. @submarin: what usb ports are you using? I have a fairly new Dell too, and I have issues if I plug my Octacapture in a USB3 port, USB2 works without issues.

Hey SEVerstraten, thanks! It has 2 usb 3.0 ports, where the interfasce is not recognized at all! So I´m using the only usb2.0 port there is, but it´s loosing the driver constantly, I´m already thinking of sending the Vostro back, even though it´s a nice laptop for a good price. How dou you think can we get hold of that problem? best submarin

I'm using the same interfaces just as you are. as a rule there are no problems but every so often a windows update will derail everything and I must reconfigure. The only other time I lose the Quad is if X1 corrupts a file on closing. This happens every few months. Other than that both devices have been very good. They do seem to be sensitive about USB ports. Mine work best on USB 2 ports that are on the motherboard. USB 3 is a no go. The UA-25 is really a USB 1.1, so if you connect it to a USB hub it will pull down any USB 2 devices connected to the same hub. There is a new driver for the Quad cap but nothing for the UA-25.

If it helps narrow down the problem, I have a V-Studio 700 (Console + Interface) running Sonar X1b in 64-bit. I lose audio from time to time and have to reboot. Sweetwater thinks it is a driver problem but has not gotten a good response from Cakewalk yet. I am adding this to make the point that, at least for me, this problem is not necessarily related to the Exp install, although it may be in your case.

There was an issue for people upgrading through the versions up to X1d with the saturation knob screwing something up. I bought Expanded (the Suite actually) right off the bat which was Build 425 so it didn't affect me but it was in the X1d upgrade instructions and I even called Cake about it because I didn't know WTH it meant or if I needed to do it. Supposedly people who STARTED with Expanded (Build 425) didn't have to worry about it. People who upgraded X1 up to Expanded had to go in and delete the Saturation Knob files before doing the upgrade (when they installed the upgrade it put the new Saturation Knob in). I don't know what it was breaking but it was breaking something. There are probably a ton of threads about it. Cheers.

FWIW: I run both VS700R and Quad Capture regularly and don't ever see this. It really seems like a USB power issue. Have you tried different cables?

@THambrecht... I wonder if that driver ends up in the start up programs. Then if you did a DAW optimization on your computer the driver would get disabled in the start up programs causing the lag. Just a thought.
