Why does Sonar not show up in WMIC Product List Brief output? (Resolution in Progress)
A curious question. I wanted to use the DOS WMIC line command to generate a list of all installed Windows programs, formatted to an html table, that I could use if ever I needed to completely reload Windows and Sonar and all the other programs, yet Sonar does not show up (nor do Dimension Pro and Rapture stand-alone versions), in the output from the query. Gobbler, and my Native Instruments components show up, just not the Cakewalk software. The command I ran in DOS was: wmic /Output:clipboard product list brief /Format:htable A curious Bob Bone

Maybe try running from an elevated command prompt?
Sell by date at 9000 posts. Do not feed. @48/24 & 128 buffers latency is 367 with offset of 38. Yeah - tried that, with no difference.
I am not sure where it is pulling the information from, but it seems something is amiss.
I can always just write something in C# to pull the info.

Thanks, Alex. I chased down the link and a bunch of others, and found the 3 sources of information that must be queried to retrieve that info, and am working it up in a C# program that I will likely post somewhere for anybody to use for a quick way to have a list of programs for situations where they want to reload their OS.
Pen and paper would accomplish the same thing, or screen shots, but it seems like there should be a way to generate this automatically, and so it shall come to pass. :)

Is there a way to query the info stored in Control Panel > Programs and Features
Isn't that a list of all installed programs?

On that link there were a couple of alternative parameters to try. Also check out ccleaner I think that does a report... Cheers..

The displayed information comes from multiple places in the Registry, depending on the installation method, so the retrieval method must query multiple locations to generate the composite list.
So, I have the locations, and now it is a simple matter of whipping up a quick program in C# to produce the list and also place the info in a formatted file.
But first, Black Ops 2 is calling me.....

Doesn't the installer have to jump through certain hoops to show I'm that list? I expect a hoop or two got missed

I use an incredible program called Belarc Advisor to generate a list of all installed software, plus serial and registration numbers. The program also gives you a detailed profile of your computer and devices - far better than simple system info utilities.
When i do a system re-install, I just use the printout from Belarc Advisor to guide me..

I have Belarc Adviser and it works great. This was just some little quick and dirty thing that has now sprouted in my head to create, so I am doing so.
I was helping someone over the phone prepare to reload their Windows 7 install, and wanted to generate that list of programs prior to nuking their system, and in the process, ran the WMIC command to generate the list on my machine, and found it faulty - not listing Sonar and a few other programs.
That's what started this - the why Sonar didn't show up on that list.
Not a big deal - it just struck me as odd not to see Sonar returned from that query - I now know why, and am past that and cheerfully am writing the utility.
