Its usually when i want to show someone something it will act skip playback do random crap. just like today i was in the mood to do some work. i open sonar open my small project 6 tracks total playing and trying to move wave files ( kick ) every time i move the dam thing audio engine Craps out.... it was working fine last week nothing changed. move the buffer to 25 still crashes CPU is at 2% SSD drive is barely used. does anyone else have random issues like this ? most of the time 95% of the time works just fine..

Hey gt2004 . . . sorry for your frustration, but you haven't explained too clearly how and where you're moving the WAV files that cause this issue ? Like to try and help, please clarify.

Working 95% of the time, is pretty good.

Are you talking about moving/copying WAV files to different tracks in Track View ?
Are they soft synth kick tracks, audio recorded kick tracks, midi kick tracks ?

gt2004, assuming that after reboot, problem is still there....

Quick test:  Open a different project and try the same move.  Does it work?

If so, original project may be corrupt.

However, if you see the same problem again, something on your system may have changed for the worse.  Install any programs or updates recently?

Try rolling back to a previous system state.

    Good luck.

Emu interfaces are crap. Get a new interface/drivers. On Lynx here, and not seeing your problems.

how old is that sound card?(the EMU-0404)
    could that be the problem?

first thing that caught my eye in your sig.

youve got this super powered computer with 24 gig of ram and thats your soundcard?

you should really be re-evaluating soundcard options.

If the main problem is the audio skipping during playback, or audio problems after moving files...
Does the bit rate of the file you moved match the project you have opened in SONAR? If not, this is a problem. Does the EMU 0404 have a bit rate variable switch? 16bit, 24, 96? If so, putting it on the 96 (may be 92bits/sec... I usually run 24) setting should allow you to run all bit rates below that with no problem. If your original project was saved as 16bit, and you attempt to run it on SONAR at 24bit, you'll get play back issues).

Another solution could be your drivers. WCM driver via windows default or are you using an ASIO driver? ASIO4ALL cured any latency problems I've had.

To tell you the truth, I am almost certain that your A/I (Audio Interface) is the issue. If running windows, go into control panel and check your sound settings. Make sure that your main output/input setting is set to ONLY your interface. Continue this process in SONAR (So that your computer is not trying to use Realtek or Sound blaster drivers while using your interface).

If this does not solve the issue, it's because your Interface sucks bro. Simple as that. I had an EMU interface when I first left the studio I worked for and started my own project studio. I moved to Cakewalk UA-EX25 (soon to move to OCTA-CAPTURE).
Definitely your EMU... get rid of it.

Er, to all the comments pointing at his E-MU interface... Not relevant in this case, since OP said the setup was working fine last week (With the same interface!).

gt2004, I can only repeat my earlier suggestions and ask the questions again:  What changed recently?  Do the glitches happen on every project?  Can you roll back to previous state?

Examine what you have running in the project. Effects etc. If you have effects running, turn them off when you move things, see if that's the problem. Where and how are you moving them? Are you moving selected segments of clips or entire clips?
