Why does X2 Producer keep switching my clock from internal to audio?
Why does X2 Producer keep switching my clock from internal to audio? And why isn't the template accepting this change when I save it this way?

Well, with the internal - my understanding is that you can vary the tempo and also WAV clips imported as loops sync to the measures(??) Am I expressing that correctly? It's just strange that it won't keep it at "internal" Thoughts?

I think if you have any audio (audio tracks, softsynths, metronome?) Sonar will switch sync timing to audio. That is, time must be measured by the audio rate as generated by the audio device. As far as loops (groove clips) are concerned, they will conform to the tempo settings you insert in the project. Sonar resamples them on the fly to match your required duration (number of beats @ given tempo) to the audio rate of your project. Hope this is answering your question.

Yes, that's right., The only way you can use the Internal clock is with a MIDI-only project that is driving hardware synths that are not input monitored. If you have anything going on in the project that needs a sample clock, SONAR is going to switch to Audio. I'm guessing the Internal option continues to exist only for compatibility with ancient pre-audio Cakewalk WRK files.

Would it then be true to say that your audio interface must always be the master clock? I know my keyboard can be set as either master or slave. But if the audio interface has to be master it really doesn't seem to matter.

It doesn't have to be but if you have audio in the project and it isn't you'll get timing drift. The alternatives are there for MIDI only projects.
