Why does my us-800 make my computer crash?

I run x1 on a toshiba satellite. everythings flawless when im working with midi but when i hook up my tascam us-800  to record some audio, my laptop crashes routinely. ITs never crashed without being hooked up to my interface. I believe its the drivers, the one that came with the tascam didnt work for win7 and the ones on the website work barely. Is there anything i can do about this or do i need to get either a new computer or new interface?

drivers.  tascam is notorious for horrible drivers.

make sure you have the correct latest version of drivers for your operating system from tascam's website.

try both WDM and ASIO driver mode and see if either one works better.

other than that - get something with better drivers.  JMO.

check my website for soundcard recommendations (there are no tascam soundcards listed there!)

Beagle is right. It's the Tascam drivers. Rather than fighting it, I'd opt for a different audio interface.
