Why is Pentagon now playing games with me in 8.5?

Mmm, just recently Pentagon has decided to play a cruel trick on me.

I find a sound...
make a few adjustments...
save the sound...
save the song...
come back to the song later... & Pentagon has reverted back to the sound I found before I made any adjustments.
And what's more... if I now try & recall my adjusted sound (the one I saved) on Pentagon... IT WON'T LET ME!
Visually the controls will move to my new settings, but only for about 250 milliseconds. Then Pentagon says 'no no no, you can't have that' & reverts them back to its original settings again.
You can't win - unless you're sure it's exactly the sound & arrangement you want the very first time you adjust anything in Pentagon & record it immediately.

Anyone had this problem with Pentagon & 8.5? Any way to fix it?

Do you have any channel/bank/patch assignments made for it in the Track Inspector? If not, you might try setting the bank and patch there.

When you insert the soft synth do you enable Recall Assignable Controls? I think you can also enable that feature in the Synth Rack.

Have you tried saving the patch as a new preset after tweaking it the way you want it?

Recall Assignable Controls is enabled, Chappel.

Also, when I referred to 'saving' my tweaked sound, I actually meant saving as a new preset - & it's that that Pentagon now won't allow me to recall. Visually the controls will move to my new settings, but only for about 250 milliseconds before they revert back to Pentagons previous patch.

    Strange. Can you reload Pentagon?

    Thanks

I don't fiddle with synth settings much (ignorant guitar player who only knows 2 chords and both are E) but I played around with it a bit. Are you saving the preset with a different name? I don't seem to be able to duplicate the problem you're having. I inserted Pentagon as an instrument track, wrote out a pattern in the PRV and copied/pasted it several times to make it longer. In the Track Inspector I changed the bank to 0-Pentagon Bank A and the patch to Sad Strat. I twisted some dials until I got a very different sound and saved it as "Testing".

The Program name on the right side of the Pentagon player never changes from Sad Strat so I guess the user presets are only variations of the internal presets.

When I play the project my new settings remain until I choose "No Preset" in the preset box. If I choose No Preset I get the straight Sad Strat sound. If I choose "Testing" in the preset box I get my new sound and it stays that way until I chose No Preset again.

Hopefully someone else will be able to shed more light on the matter.

pentagon behaves a little different than other programs concerning the preset management..
it's not as easy as "save preset".. and done! (or it has changed in the meantime)
but the answer is here in the forum,..  have to check it at home

    Hi guys,

Yeah, I change the name when I save as a preset. But, you know, normally this is only a backup, as previously saving the song was always enough - Pentagon would originally, like all other software synths, return with my tweaked sound from the saved song file.
Now it seems to have changed its goddam mind & wants to do it its own way.

So, as I kinda hinted before, this is a new problem.
    I'm stumped.
Hope you can help out here Frank... pretty please.

    Thanks again...

P.S. Hey, Chappel... have you tried a capo?

    ok Nadine,..

I am pretty sure that Pentagon NEVER saved your presets before a 100% correct, maybe close.. but that's about it.
I've worked with Pentagon some years ago and used it as a vocoder.. very nice effect.. and ran into the same issues as you now back then!
Just starting recently to use it again, so here is what I come up with.. and it's not something that you'd like to hear, anyway..

On the Pentagon GUI it reads "PENTAGON I", left click it and a menu will pop up.
click on "program" - "save extended program" (at the very bottom)
now each time you open that project you have to go into that menu again (yes.. no joking).. each time ! and click on "program" -
    "load program"!
That's how to be sure that you retrieve the exact sound again !

    now some remarks..
I'd probably save the *.p1 file to the project folder.. so in case you need to backup stuff, you don't lose your Pentagon-sound again.

you could (and now comes the great workaround-answer (yeah, for each issue you have a workaround..)) bounce that pentagon-track down to an audio-track.. that will save you from going through that reload-procedure all the time..

there's about a 0,0001% chance that this "issue" will be taken care of in the future..
I might be completely wrong with my assumption or my solution..
hope it helps you anyway to proceed with your project..
    Frank

    Thanks Frank, your solution works!

I've already been bouncing to audio - 1st post.
But I think you're right, I don't think Pentagon ever saved my tweaks. I just didn't notice it before because they were so subtle.
Anyway, it's a pretty weird setup.

Should Cakewalk ever fix this, slim though that chance may be, I bet it only ends up on an upgrade for X1.

Oh well, I did like to hear your info, Frank.

    Thanks a lot...
