Why is X2 selecting clips I am nowhere NEAR selecting?
It's doing it again. I select a clip in a completely different track to mute/unmute/tweak/etc and it randomly selects clips all over the place thus applying the function I want to perform on the original clip to ALL of them. This is driving me crazy. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Well I just kind of figured out a way to fix it but it makes absolutely no sense to me why it was causing this problem in the first place. In the right click menu I tried "Isolate Clips In Lane" and it kept it from selecting the other bit I didn't want to screw with. But how this started was I was doing something in my guitar tracks (muting a section of a lane) and it muted a section of my MIDI drums. Then when I tried to unmute the MIDI clips it selected unmuted clips so when I unmuted the clips that got randomly muted the ones that WEREN'T muted ended up muted and vice versa. What the heck is going on here? Anyway... there is obviously something I am missing but that is just screwed up. I tried all sorts of stuff and just happened to hit that isolate clips option on a whim. Does this make any sense? Cheers.

Hi, Bill. I didn't group them or link them at all. At least I didn't intentionally. When this happens when I try to unselect the unwanted clips using the smart tool, ruler, or the blue track select buttons it just reselects them as soon as I try to perform the function (in this case mute). Very strange and frustrating. Is there a global option somewhere to ungroup/link all clips in the project? Cheers.

And to explain a little further while I listen to the whole track to make sure everything is still there... I was working on my rhythm guitar track. I was comping the takes, basically I wanted to mute a section of one take and for some reason it muted my BFD tracks for a section that was in the general area of what I had just muted but it didn't line up to the actual section I just muted. I hadn't even touched the BFD track for ages so it shouldn't have been selected in any way. It's just weird. This was happening as I worked on the BFD track originally too. Random sections were getting selected as I worked with it so as I was trying to delete unwanted takes it would take out other parts with it. Anyway... everything seems okay but I'd like to understand what might be going on here so I can be aware of it in the future. I should mention I still haven't installed the Quick Fix yet so if it's related to that it might be my own sloth to blame. Cheers.

CTRL+A to select all. Then right-click a clip and choose "Remove Selected Clips from Groups."

Also, there's a feature that automatically groups clips. It may be causing the issue. Check in PREFERENCES > PROJECT > RECORD and uncheck "Group Clips Across Tracks." That may keep this from happening in the future.

Cool, man. I'll do that next time and see what happens. I realize now that in this instance the guitar track I was working on is the first track with events below the BFD track so somehow when I'm selecting the clip I had just cropped and muted it was reaching up into the BFD track and muting the clips in that section as well. At least I THINK that's what's happening. I have no idea how to keep that from happening and I'm a little concerned what's going to happen as move further down my track list. This just wasted a half hour. Ugh. But thanks, Bill. Growing pains or something I guess. Cheers.

Were you able to confirm that the clips are grouped? It would be indidated by a number at the top right of the clips.

I just see "Record X" x being the number of the clip. No numbers in little boxes like in your pic. I just did another function and it worked so hopefully I can move forward. Noticing some other unrelated weirdness. I guess now that I'm heading into the mixing phase I'm gonna start seeing the little quirks. I'm sure most of which will be attributable to user error but this selection thing was certainly a weird one. Cheers.

Oh my bleeping blap! It just did it again and when I isolated the BFD clip and unmuted it it did something to the wave files of that section on my rhythm guit track. Essentially the clip sections in THAT part of the track are now silent but there is no split or mute or nothing. Just the inside of the wave is gone (just the outline is there) and when I hit playback that time period is just gone. I... just don't know what to say here. I can't work like this. :-(

Hi Beebster, I can confirm your issue. I noticed the same behavior here as well. Clips seem to get selected when I don't even touch them. It only happens when working in lanes as far as I observed it. And only the mute/unmute function in my case...so far. Can't get my head around this. ...I'm not so sure if this is a user error. regards, Daniel

I have experienced strange things and keep presuming it's me. For example, the output level on a compressor rolls to 0 or 100% (I think this happens when I mousewheel over the tracks to scroll up and down through tracks and busses - if I fail to hover correctly, I end up scrolling wheeling a parameter.). Another case is where I click on a track or bus but that track or bus do not become selected. I move pots and faders effecting some other currently selected track. To try to deal... I watch closely my selected track and make sure the track I think I'm modifying is actually selected. I am careful with the scroll wheel and have actually started avoiding using it for scrolling up and down tracks in track view.. I'm definitely using lanes also.

@Noisy Neighbor. Thanks for posting. I am indeed working with lanes. Okay... maybe I'm not going crazy. Oof. I was hoping to have all my slip edits and fades done by now. If this a bug it's a pretty annoying one. If it's some weird default setting it's very strange and confusing. Cheers.

I have installed the quick fix, but there was significant assurance that the quick fix could only impact a small handful of things and that it was largely safe.

That's why I haven't made the fix a priority because it says it addresses stuff that don't apply to me and if other folks have it installed and still getting the weird selection problems then it likely won't help. Your scenario seems different than this though but now I'm worried about what's gonna happen when I actually get down to mixing. And just to be clear I'm not trying to complain... I just need to get this figured out. It's wrecking my flow. :-/

Let's get specific... I have seen - pro channel outputs roll up and down (I presume related to me using scroll wheel to scroll in trackview) - EQ items in the Vocal FX thing disabled (bands disabled) - I'm meaning the vocal fx with the exander compressor, de-Ser, delay, stereo widener, eq I've seen faders move, but I use fader automation so that's less of an issue. I have thought I was editing one track while modifying FX on another track by accident. Win 8 x64, Sonar Pro X64

Yeah, that certainly sounds like a selection issue. I'm just gonna toss another tidbit out there that I'm using a Kensington trackball that requires drivers. Mayhaps has something to do with the drivers?

Anyway... I'm just gonna rethink this project and not try to be too fancy with my comping. I just had some nicer sections of specific takes I was trying to use but if this is gonna be happening I'm gonna just stay with the full takes and hope for the best. If anyone else is having this issue let's get this reported for the first patch because if it is a bug it has got to go. If it is some weird workflow "enhancement" that's eluding us it would be good to have it in the forums collective brain trust for others encountering it. Cheers.

I actually had a feature request in mind a couple months ago about being able to disable scroll wheel parameters. I hate it when I'm scrolling through the PC or the console and the cursor hooks into a knob or fader and adjusts it when I don't want it to. But that's an entirely different topic. Cheers.

For me, it might be the identical topic as the scroll wheel disable. I'm not sure there has been any issue that wasn't related to the scroll wheel for me, except thinking I was modifying one track when I was modifying another (this was user error). So... :-) I'm really pretty happy. One small thing... Sometimes the little bouncing line on the Sonitus compressor doesn't bounce on the line and it makes me wonder if it's working. I get very confused when the user interface stops performing as I expect. I abandoned attempts to use side chain compressors twice in my current project ( but again... probably user error ). I could get the thing to bounce when in the FX bin and not using side chain, but when in the Pro Channel in the FX Chain it didn't work as I expected it to.

I think this only applies to the console but it might work elsewhere. There is a feature where you can make your console strip settings remember a specific position and if they get screwed up you can double click them and they will reset to that value (like how it will reset to the default value of 0.0 on a fader naturally). It's a little tedious because you have to do it for EVERYTHING but here it is... Set your control then... Right Click > Value > Set Snap To Current Then if something wacky happens you can just double click it and it will go back to where it was. Cheers.

Oh ok! That's cool. Never knew that one. I've just been saving the Pro Channels. I record the whole night then bounce each track. I save evolutions of the pro channel settings for each track and bus. Then I can always restore. to that track as I mixed it.

It's a cool trick that was buried in the talented Mr Garrigus' X1 Power. I made sure to write it down in the little notebook that lives beside my DAW. I wonder when X2 Power is coming out.

Oh and, Bill I hope I didn't scare you off. This is not a complaint thread. Just hoping to get this sorted. You rock dude and the function you detailed will be getting used to help keep things moving. I just don't think that's the final answer to what's happening here. I've got the final instance where the weird "hollow wave" thing happened saved so if it comes down to it I can drop box it to the Bakers. I know the hollow wave is some kind of special mute but I can't remember where I read it or what it's specific function is. Cheers.
