Why is product key stored Per User/CURRENT_USER? (Sonar 5 Producer)

Hi Forum,

We are using Sonar 5 Producer in a school network enviroment.  All students (approx 1000) access Sonar 5 from "The Music Classroom" which has approx 30 computers.

I have noticed that when Sonar 5 product key is registered, it is stored under CURRENT_USER in the registry (instead of a more appropiate CURRENT_MACHINE key).

Is anyone familiar with this, and can anyone advise of a solution as to how to allow multiple students (i.e. different windows logon accounts) to access the local software without being prompted for the product key.  It is not feasible to register the product 1000 times per machine, so that every user is covered and not asked for the key.

I look forward to anyones help out here.

Thanks,

Neil.

I would imagine it is to stop a single user licence being networked across 1000 machines.

But I'm only guessing this is really an issue for customer support who will have your license details and will be able to assist with your particular deployment.

Thanks for your comments.

The annoying factor is that we indeed have a site license for Sonar 5, so knowing that the product key is being inserted per user is making no sense, and is such an odd design.  I was hoping someone else may have had a similar setup or know how to work around this "flaw".
@mudgel: OS = Windows XP Pro (SP3)

Thanks,

Neil.

2 options:

1. Have your IT department push a script that runs once on each new user login that adds the registration info into that user's registry.

or

2. Update to Sonar 8.5 which doesn't have this problem.

Thank you Tarsier, I am the "IT Department" so to speak, and I have already explored the "user logon script" method, which indeed works. However I was after the clarification from someone like yourself (i.e. someone who knows what they're talking about -- hence your 2117 posts -- ) that this is a known "issue" for mass users.

I'm also glad that you have confirmed that Sonar 8.5 does not have this problem.  I can now suggest to the Music department to pay up and get 8.5 with faith! :)

Thanks again,

Neil.
