Why is there sound from a gtr amp below +/- 100 Hz?

I can't help whacking the 83Hz open string cause it makes a raunchy growl.





Did you buy a 7 string?

I think the answer depends on whether that open E string features prominently in the guitar part.

or perhaps it may be noticeable if the recording has an undue amount of sub harmonic undertone from the room ambiance, room modes, etc. to the extent that it sounds unnaturally bassy.


I don't lo cut as aggressively on sparse recordings, I like to leave the room tone in if it works ok, and I try to arrange dense close mic recordings to be voiced so that a lo cut isn't vital, but is still helpful for clearing stuff up.

I think it just depends.
