Why is this happening? Effects stop working
When i record something, let's say a drum track. I use a addtictive drums plugins + edrums. I then insert a new track with my guitar + guitar rig 5 and i select a distortion. I then want to record the guitar while playing back the drum track but then the distortion is gone. The thing is i'm pretty sure this wasn't happening before. I must've clicked or disabled something but i have no clue what. It's annoying because i need to hear the guitar how it sounds with the distortion enabled when recording it. The same with 2 guitar tracks. I record one and then play it back to record another one but then the effect i use to record the 2nd guitar is turned off. Understand what i'm talking about? Any solution to this? Thanks!

I sometimes inadvertently select bypass bin of this type (or similar wording), not sure which key yet I accidently must be hitting to select that, but it's something to check if that's what might be happening to you

Without trying it would that global effect key not disable all effects? I mean they work till i play back a track so i doubt i have global effects turned off. Or am i thinking wrong? (i'm not near my studio computer now).

I was refering to Bypass Bins of this type. I don't really know which key is assigned to it, but one must be as I occastionally hit it and find my guitar rig inserted in an effect bin is bypassed. Today might be a good day for me to look it up...

Tripod Thanks. I don't think this is the problem though. Anybody else any suggestions? I don't think I understand your initial post. Can you explain it to me again... use small words!

Ok, I have track 1 where i recorded a guitar part. I then play that track back to record track 2 with a new guitar part. I have a random effect from guitar rig. I hear that effect just fine TILL i hit playback then that effect dissapears. I just hear my guitar as it is plugged in. Completely clean. I really can't understand it much better. The effect i used on track one plays just fine. It's the new track i want to record that stops any effects as soon as i playback another track. And i'm 99% sure this did not happen before.

I *think* I understand at least in part. 1. You've recorded a guitar part and it records and plays just fine - Track 1. 2. When you attempt to record a second track - Track 2, the effects are not working on the new track. What I would suggest trying is Clone track. Clone Track 1 and deselect "Clone Events". Be certain the new cloned track is armed for recording, and input echo is on and the track is selected as the active track. You have not stated how you have guitar rig setup. If it is on a buss, inserted in the track fx bin, if it is inserted in Pro Channel.

Under Preferences->Audio->Playback & Recording you may have enabled the "Disable Input Monitoring during Playback" setting. Dan

If you are saying: Track 1 always has the effect during recording and playback but Track 2 only has the effect during record then I think: - Your guitar is still routed to Track 1; in other words, input is going to both Track 1 and Track 2. - I think you are just hearing the effect from Track 1 while you are playing live. - Just for the heck of it, mute Track 1, record Track 2, and see what happens. This is kind of the reverse of what Scott said. You need to turn the echo OFF on Track 1 (if that's the problem). I always hold shift when I arm and disarm tracks because that turns echo on and off as well. You also need to make sure echo is not always on by default in Preferences. If this works, then you will not hear any effect on Track 2 whether you are recording or playing back--and that is a different issue. Even if this doesn't help the OP, it is something good to be aware of. Often I will set up a number of tracks to receive input from a microphone so that the singer can come in and do multiple takes and multiple harmonies without waiting for me to set things up. This is great unless you forget to manage the input echoes: then you have the singer coming in on a dozen tracks which can blow out your headphones.

what audio interface are you using? Some interfaces have an internal mixer that you control outside of Sonar (like my Maudio gear). I went into the respective interfaces and turned off the hardware routing so that I wouldn't hear my dry sound when I was really wanting to hear my "crunchy" sound. My lexicon alpha is controlled by a knob on the front. It goes from mix(computer) to monitor(dry). As long as each track has the effect you desire, it shouldn't turn off on it's own. If you are going to do several tracks of the exact same sound, try putting guitar rig 5 in the BUSS fx bin and route each track to that buss that way you have only one instance of gr5 running. When you are done tracking, move your gr5 instances to each track and tweak to your desired sound per track.
