Why isn't my P5 Spectral Transformer available anymore?

The P5 Spectral Transformer is one of my favorite FX. It shows up just fine in my re-installation of P5v2. The dll is in the 'Shared Plugins' dir with the other stuff. But now, I can't find it in SPro after a 'reset/rescan' of my VSTs. I used to be able to share my P5 FX's with Sonar, but that appears broken now. Any suggestions?

You need to check that the "Shared Plugins" folder is in the VST search path in Sonar.

Have you downloaded installed the latest version of the plugin
    Which version of Sonar?
    Everything 64 bit?
Have you checked the Cakewalk plugin manager?
    +1 Karyn.

Lots of name truncations there. I'm assuming you mean you mean the new Sonar Professional. Sometimes even after pointing Sonar's VST scanner (which it sounds like you have done) you still need to do an FX browser refresh. I haven't done this in ages but I think you need to be in the correct directory in the Browser and hit F5.

I've only needed to do this to find new drum patches and the like and as I said it has been a while.

If the plug-in is in Shared Plugins, it is a DirectX plug-in. Given it is a P5 plug-in, it is a 32bit DirectX plug-in. Do not put the Shared Plugins folder in the VST scan path. 32bit DirectX plug-ins will only be available to 32bit SONAR. There is no bridge for DirextX plug-ins. It may be possible to wrap the plug-in in a DX-to-VST wrapper and load it into BitBridge but results using this technique are inconsistent.

Thanks. I tried that earlier today, but will go back and do it again. The installer  for P5 and SPro recognizes that my 'Shared Plugins' is on my E: drive and that's where the files got sent. I'm surprised that I'd manually have to list that to the VST scanner, but did try that (and also the Shared DXI, just in case).  The scanner seemed to find the other FX's located in the Shared Plugins OK. Some get labled as Project5 plugs like the SpecTrans, others don't, so I look through the list of found items pretty carefully. I'll try it again and report results. It wouldn't be the first time I'd done something 'wrong'.

As scook said.  IIRC, P5 came with only DX plugins (although it was compatible with VST).  So, if you are using the 64bit version of SONAR, DX's are a no go for the most part in the 64bit realm.

    Kind regards,

The P5 "half rack" effects are bundled with SONAR and ported to 64bit so should be available on both 32 and 64bit SONAR.

Thanks for the fdbk as I try to sort things out. I could've sworn that I'd seen my Project5 Spectal Transformer show up in some version of Sonar recently, but being unable to reproduce it at will, I was reluctant to report it. Some of the fog seems to be lifting, though the path forward still seems a bit murky. This is also why I'm also asking questions about the 32b installs, bridging, DXI's etc.

I'm almost beginning to think I might have to actually install a 32b Win (Vista maybe?) in a VirtualBox to just get some of the god-forsaken DXIs (that apparently don't bridge, again not noted in the upgrade doc's) updated and converted to VSTs. I'll have to think really hard about that one, as a bunch of stuff is just becoming an orphan that I'm not going to deal with. Of course, those projects also get trashed and it leaves me wondering about what to include or not in existing projects.

I'm still a bit confused about some of this. For instance, my Pysn-II (DXI) from P5 seems to work OK. I've already converted it to a VST as well, but that one can't find its presets, so may need some more attention.

It seems like some stuff relocated OK, but others didn't. More surprises, I hate when that happens. But I shall remain calm and visit my library (with the books and stuff) shortly.

If P5 was installed on the PC, a 32bit version of SONAR will pick the Spectral Transformer up, a 64bit version of SONAR will not. PSYN II and the "half rack" effects have been ported to 64bit DirectX and bundled with SONAR for years.

No 32bit DirectX plug-ins work in 64bit SONAR. They are not even seen by the app. Only 64bit DirectX plug-ins, 32bit and 64bit VST plug-ins are displayed in 64bit SONAR. 32bit VST plug-ins load into a server called BitBridge which handles communication between the 32bit plug-ins and 64bit SONAR. There is no bridge for DirectX.

Is there a list that I can refer to that I can check things off on?

This is my first dance with the Sonar 64b bit stuff as my old Vista/32 box was pretty trouble-free until it died of old age. So, I'd moved to Win8_x64 on my laptop over a year ago to get hold of the ropes, but didn't install much music stuff, and certainly not Sonar. This probably accounts for some of my 'learning experiences' as I go about the new installation to the best of my abilities. I'd hoped to just get back to where I was, with maybe some new enhancements. I'm making progress, but only on the installation, not playing with the tool itself. Just a comment as it seems a pretty difficult transition so far.

Yes, but Spectral Transformer is not one of the P5 "half rack" effects.  It was done by a 3rd party developer and thus will not likely be updated to 64 bit.  Since it is a DX effect, it will not be seen by 64 bit sonar.

Thanks for clearing that up. My post #9 was in response to the edit added to post #7 and post #8. It was not meant to suggest anything WRT the Spectral Transformer.

Bummer. I'm actually giving some thought to setting up a VirtualBox with a Win32 install and running Sonar32 from there to check things out. I'd try to install/update and transfer to VST some of the older DX stuff, since those seem to run OK as bridged VSTs in SPro64.  It would take a day or so but I could stick a 100GB VBox install on an external drive and just delete it when done, or maybe just leave it hanging around for awhile. I also discovered that the VSC (also from Roland and now discontinued) doesn't play well with x64 either. I'm now looking for a new/improved and x64 compatible GM/GS synth, since TTS-1 is still just DX and probably soon go to obsolete as well. I find them handy for quick stuff and things like Band in a Box/Jammer that don't do all the more complicated VST stuff and don't need to since they do other things.

Any suggestions other than a SoundFont player?
I'll be trying this one today: http://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth

Uhh, ohh! I think I hi-jacked my own thread. My bad.
