Why use SoundClick?

In that it looks like I might actually finish a couple of songs I'm working on in Project5 I'm wondering about posting them.
What are the benifits of using SoundClick vs other services?

Thanks.
...Steven

    it provides numbers

    one can obsess over numbers

chart numbers, play numbers, view numbers

blipp already mentioned a large user base and it's free
it's also relatively friendly and easy to set up an account and upload new songs

also helps supports the masquerade of a cyber identity

At this point, the ONLY reason I use soundclick is because you can offer everyone the chance to hear your song without having to let them download it. I like streaming my tunes rather than downloading them...that way you can still market your music on CD or sellable downloads.

It's funny that this topic came up as I was wondering today 'why do all the P5ers use Soundclick?' This pondering was inspired by the problems this causes me as a poor modem user...I would love to queue up all the tracks posted here in Flashget (download manager) and leave it to get on with it while I am elsewhere; this is not possible though due to the way Soundclick does it's linking and makes life difficult for getting to hear more of the music posted here.

to just post music the audioshots auditorium has some advantages

but you basically have to download and then play either open or save

it's free, you can upload mp3s encoded at any bitrate (soundclick free requires 128)
it has easier to use categories

i like using both so I can offer a cleaner airier version encoded at 192

I just put my music everywhere I can to get exposure. My site, soundclick, myspace, besonic (when it was up), funender, other places i've forgotten i have accounts at, etc. As long as its free, why not?

Thanks for all the great information!

Back in the days before the Internet, it was recommended that you join a performance rights group like ASCAP, trademark your identity, you copyright your tunes, etc. before publishing your music. How much of that is valid in our context (artist/songwriter posting our tunes on the Internet)?

still valid i believe publishing rights via internet are gray and still waiting on precedents to be established.
